In Canada we don't get to see these new episodes on tv, but on this website they have every movie and episode:

Just watched the two new episodes today, and I feel that they are a decent continuation of the first four seasons. Most of the fans of the original episodes worship the old episodes even though some of them were really lousy. To me, some are basically unwatchable a third or fourth time. I felt the first movie was on par with the episodes, but the others (especially the second one) were not as good. I hope they get into a solid comedic groove as these new episodes continue on.

Really? That's interesting.
It's the other way around for me. Futurama is great fun and incredibly witty, while the thing I like about The Simpsons are the constant observations on society.

The planet of Eden episode tried so very, very hard to push the boundaries of good taste. That is, to date, the only episode I've channel surfed on because it was non-amusing. I don't know if the humor in it failed to strike me or what, but if thats the quality of the new season then I fear for the future.

A half-hour show it easier to write. Sure, coming up with the individual ideas for stories is harder, but keeping it tight and funny for 30 minutes is easier than for two hours.
I've seen both the new episodes that have aired so far and loved them both. The first was better than the second, but I did really enjoy the second one too!
