I've mentioned it a couple of times before... :)
I wonder if this solution could also be implemented in dark and garrettloader?
It also works for Thief1/Gold and SS2

Try this:
modify "Target" in your shortcut to:
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 thief2.exe
to dedicate the first CPU core to the game (or "/affinity 2" for the second, and so on)
No good; it's already automatically running on single-core affinity.
Here's some additional information that I've remembered since my last posting. About a month ago, I had the normal patch installed for
Thief II. Both Thief.exe and the other process which runs when the game starts (I don't remember what it's called) were set to single-core affinity. When I started a new game or loaded a save, the screen would go black and the program would freeze. I could Alt-Tab out, whereupon I would see an error saying something about texture memory. I don't recall the exact one, but it's the one described in the F.A.Q. as occurring when the Nvidia driver version is more than 8.0. However, my driver version is below 8.0.
Anyway, just before I made the original post in the thread, I reinstalled
Thief II and this time applied the Premium Patch. Now it automatically uses single-core affinity, even though I'm pretty sure I didn't adjust it to do so this time. And now the crash does not give me an error message, just the black screen hang.
Since
Thief II was the last game which ran (
Thief Gold was the first to stop working, then
System Shock 2), I'm concentrating on
Thief II. If that starts running again, then I can move on to the other two.

Oops! The problem with all three is the black screen freeze after the game loads. The main menu works, but if I actually try to get into the game, after loading up the screen goes black and freezes. I can Alt-Tab out and shut down the game. My graphics card driver version is 6.14.11.7519.
any chance you are trying to run the game in win9x compatibility mode?

Yes, the shortcut is set to do that. Why, should it not be?

Can no one help me fix this?

definitely not.either set it to win2000 or leave it alone-setting it to win9x will cause..well,black freeze after loading. :)
btw, does anyone know what was I doing at august the 5th (and why didn't I post this one month ago)?
