I just purchased the house in Anvil, the really dumpy one, and I read in the game manual that furnishing could be purchased from the local vendors, so I went to every vendor but I could not find out how to get the furnishing. So is there a way to fix up the anvil house or am I waisting my time? Also, if there is a way to fix up the house, will the items I stored in the house in and out of dressers and chests disapear when I upgrade? Sorry if I missed something basic I'm very new to this game but I love it! :D
edit: sorry I didn't see the sticky.

i bought my house in layawin n the count told me to buy my furnishings in a goods store......it has the little picture with that money bag on the sign n im not sure if u can buy them in any town, but i bought mine in the town my house was in.
the item is a little envelope in case ur wondering, so wen ur looking for it in the merchant, its under the books section n it gets shipped to ur house wen u buy it......it ses each section of the house like kitchen section or bedroom section.
And it is safe to store ur stuff in it, no1 steals from u that i kno of.

You can buy furniture for houses in other cities. Anvil is an exception as furniture comes with it free once you finish the quest that goes with it.

Why buying a house? Aren't there places enough to sleep around Cyrodiil? Or own house is needed for some other reason than sleeping?
If you are a member of any Guild, you can sleep at their quarters as well... Why waste extra money?
Besides, this rollbeds seem to be just everywhere, and your house is in one particular place which can be far from the location of your active quest...
Apart from that, there are simply places where you can pay 10 gold and sleep.

Yup, just like GGG said. Some of us enjoy having a 'house' to stockpile our stuff and display our trophies.
Skingrad's house is the best for that since one of the furnishings consist of several transparant display cases to show off some of your collection. Like some guy suggested I even went and hung up a pair of Glass Battleaxes over the ground floor fireplace, and a Daedric Battleaxe/Warhammer combo over the fireplace in the master bedroom.
Eyja has permission to use the battleaxes to dismember any would-be-thief, provided she cleans up the mess, polish and return the battleaxe to where I left it ... :cheeky:

If I don't need it I go selling it at once - thank goodness money weigh nothing :D
Anyway how much is it worth? :)

I bought all the houses in the game simply because it's part of my obsessive nature to do every single thing in the game I possibly can.
Besides, once you complete most of the quests, you should have so much money that you couldn't possibly spend it all. It's not as nuts as Morrowind was, where it was ridiculously easy to make $1,000,000 as a Level 1 character with no cheating, but most people should easily have several hundred thousand gold by the time they're nearing the end of the game. Nothing to spend it on right now, so why not buy up all the property?

My amount of gold is not that big... It's level 9 and only 15 000 gold. :erm: And about 5 quests complete...
