Worryingly, the more I consider this, the more I can picture the scene...
Bob page and JC eating Macaroni and Burgers together? ugggg  (shivers)

Going on an all-out killing spree in the Lucky Money club in Hong Kong. I would start shooting everyone in sight till I got killed and reload my quicksave... over and over and over again. Sometimes even going so far as going out into the mall and blasting away in there as well.
(note I may have unintentionally twisted the facts somewhat; been a while since I last played)
That, and the final confrontation with Hermann:
JC: I know your Unatco killphrase: Laputan Machine.
Hermann: I am not a machine--
JC: Sticks and stones.
[Hermann explodes]
Which makes me suddenly realize what that phrase means, too.

I just double checked the conversation logs, and I was. I'd say someone was half asleep when checking over that section of the storyine . . .
A possible explanation - albeit very improbable - could be that after Walton Simons
activated JC's killswitch after JC transmitted the distress signal he also disabled JC's augmentations, but Alex Jacobson (to quote Polito) "discretely put them back online". But in this case the augmentations should've been unavailable for a certain period during that mission...
In any case, it's quite incredible that such a flaw in the plot remained unmarked for this long.

You might be onto something there, but I can think of a slightly more probable situation. All transmissions had to go through Area 51, and through Daedelus, if I'm not mistaken. He actively helped JC escape the hidden MJ12 facility, and it could've been within his power to cancel the order to deactivate the augmentations, maybe on both JC and Paul.

I remember when I first encountered Daedalus on my first time playing Deus Ex. I sooooo thought that Alex Jacobson was using Daedalus as a alias so JC didn't know he was helping Him break out of the Jail Cell underneath UNATCO . That is interesting tho how that flaw was unchecked after all this. Aw hell! ;) I still love the writers for Deus Ex 1. They are the greatest! :ebil:

Wait, could you explain that again, where is the flaw?
Dr. Dumb_lunatic on 16/6/2006 at 10:05
That they actually say "We've activated Paul's killswitch and shut down his augmentations" (or words to that effect), yet when they activate JC's, the augmentations remain very much in operation.

And that Paul seems in great pain when you encounter him in the hotel room, yet you suffer no ill-effects even after being "switched" for a longer period of time.

This isn't a flaw unless somewhere in the game it's explicitly stated that JC's augmentations have been disabled. Installation of this feature may had some requirements, such as having installed augs. There was no time or incentive (no augs installed) to do so when JC arrived at UNATCO.
