I don't know if any of you guys have heard of this, but fungi has been discovered growing inside of the sealed Chernobyl reactor.

This slime, a collection of several fungi actually, was more than just surviving in a radioactive environment, it was actually using gamma radiation as a food source. The fungi appear to use melanin, a chemical found in human skin as well, in the same fashion as plants use chlorophyll
I couldn't find the original article I read on this, but it also hinted that this suggests that humans might get some of our energy from the sun via the melanin in our skin.

The fungi are mutating, evolving. Soon their plan for world domination will commence.

Honestly, this is another proof how amazing life can get. Nothing short of throwing Earth into the Sun would be able to stop the little buggers.

I believe they provide interesting states of mind after digestion.

Wait, isn't this the sort of thing that could alter the way we think life developed on earth in a largeish way? And lends a sort of credence to the Incredible Hulk too?

Well, certainly it supports the idea that radiation makes cells grow wild.

During the STALKER fan-submitted mutant competition, didn't a mutant fungus get runner's up? I can't seem to find the results of the competition, but I always thought it was one of the neater and more original ideas. It'd be hard to implement, though.

It lends further credence to evolution, for one.
