Fun with DX:HR on YouTube. - by John P.

I didn't say the repeated overcooked joke that keeps flooding on youtube since HR was released was particularly funny. Although I do think *specifically* that the whole thing with that kind of violence is pretty funny. I'm hoping everybody noted that I did say fake when I posted that. It's like seeing somebody walking through a crowded mall wearing a t-shirt that says "Abortion is AWESOME!!" (yeah, i've seen it) I don't agree with the sentiment, but I also know the person wearing it doesn't, they're just trolling. And because I know that, I find it funny.

Fake violence may be fake, but it's still portraying violence against women and you apparently find that hysterical.
Please, don't be like lost_soul and be completely incapable of understanding why what you said doesn't sound right.

I agree with VA, personally: it's so grossly over the top and massively, hilariously wrong that it skates straight into funny town.
And hell, these are all the non-lethal takedowns, which makes it funnier.
"Did you just...slamdunk a prostitute?"
"Hey, I could've used the elbowblades."
Still, it is...you, dethtoll, so I can't quite decide whether you're genuinely expressing a grievance or just being argumentative for ..arguments' sake.
I mean, if someone has to state "I for one find fake videogame prerendered cutscene takedown animation demonstrating ludicrously excessive violence intended by the game developers to be used almost exclusively against fake videogame armoured male opponents, being instead used on fake videogame female civilians who pose no threat and who would clearly be horrendously maimed in reality, purely for sheer raw silliness...to be hysterical", just to avoid someone taking offence, then this forum is going to go to shit pretty damn quickly.

I don't know why. Burning kids is, like, the best idea.
no one blinks an eye.
Both were clearly posted with tongue firmly in cheek. But apparently fake violence against women = real violence against women.
wat?

They really aren't. You must not have watched enough of them. Most of the ones posted here are the good ones, where some thought has gone into the comedy, the Jensen character, the incongruity of the violence etc. However there are many many
many whose sole purpose is basically "This bitch dissed me and I slammed her into the ground AND I STABBED HER THROUGH THE FUCKIN HEART! LOL So funnee".
They're the ones I'm talking about.
Yeah anything wrong was hilarious when I was 14 too and plenty of people (wrongly) treat the internet as a mere extension of being in their livingroom with their hooting idiot friends. I do have to wonder some times though.

What he's doing is making himself feel morally superior by picking on VA for making a non-PC joke. And he's done a wonderful job of derailing the thread. Goddammit dethtoll.

Yeah Muzman I know what videos you're talking about. I was Youtubing DXHR videos and some of them are basically just one joke played over and over again for minutes. That doesn't negate the fact that fake violence against women, or children, or the elderly, can be funny when it's done right.

I really don't care whether it's women, children, hobos, bar patrons, office workers, or dudes dancing in the train station, the You Tube takedown vids are almost universally lame. Let's all post videos of Jensen turning on faucets. Would be about as amusing.
It's not like this is the first video game where you can be violent to civilians. And it's not like these are special takedown animations that a normal player wouldn't see over and over and over and over and over again when playing the game. And it's not like they're showing off special tricks or elaborate set-ups. Anybody can fire up the game, walk over to a friendly NPC, and press the 'Q' button. Does that deserve a video?
What I liked about all the old DX videos were the exploits, glitches, deadpan humor, creative tactics, conversation options you wouldn't think to choose, and just generally seeing what "emergent" behavior people can trigger by fucking with the game. That's how I learned about grenade climbing, Max Chen on the roof, "What a shame" and other funny JC lines, fun ways to kill WS, and so on. The HR vids aren't there yet.

Look guys. my comment wasn't made to endorse the whole of the internet to make lame youtube vids of Jensen sucker punching Megan Reeds mom. I chuckled the first time I saw it because I find the ridiculous factor hilarious. I enjoy a good hollywood romp every once in awhile were a bald headed middle-aged washed-up Bruce Willis has no qualms about going postal on some kung fu chick that previously knocked his teeth out. Great. Rewind, delete the previous 15 posts or whatever. Get on with the thread or ends its poor miserable life. If we've reached consensus that once Adam finished the safety dance, the rest of the internet was just HURR DURR I HAZ SMACKED THE HO, then lets just move on.

No, I disagree. Some people are more sensitive to certain subjects than others: guess I must be one of those 'more sensitive viewers' you read about. I see nothing funny about burning children or knocking the shit out of women or the elderly. Making matters worse is the fact that there's now an unfortunate over-abundance of asinine vids showing Jensen pimp-slapping, beating, and stabbing women ('Extreme Nippletwister'??? Srsly.). Some people may find those vids objectionable and offensive and it has nothing to do with setting oneself on a pedestal of moral superiority. To some, those vids are just
not funny (and for some, with good reason). One man's bread, and all that.
Like Muz said, '... when I was 14 ....'. It's
that brand of humor, i.e.: immature. Either that or the uploaders of said videos have some serious issues with women. Pitiable.
Imo.

Hell no. It took at least a decade of wit and intelligence to place that in its proper context and make my point (that I understood VA's point).
I may toss it all away as soon as fart noises become viable forum communication, however.
