Can anyone comment on the new series of Fullmetal Alchemist that just started recently? (Spoiler free, please.)
I probably won't be able to watch it for a while, as I haven't seen a good chunk of the first series. Anime DVDs are too expensive these days.

Well I've only seen two episodes so far, but so far it's awesome. Somewhat more mature than the first series and, more importantly, more fast-paced.
And the opening is amazing.

This is...interesting. I haven't been able to find episode 1 anywhere. Only thing on YouTube is part *3*...
Oh, and Eva, if you have a Barnes&Noble nearby, you can special order pretty much any anime DVD you want, that's how I got my 4 Tenchi OVA DVDs. Usually only costs like $20 US.

You don't really need to watch the first season. Apparently it's a remake which will follow the manga more closely, which is great news because the first season was great when it followed the manga storyline, then completely fell apart when they started to make up their own shit. That being said, the very first episode was an anime original , but it was pretty good so I didn't really mind.

Personally, I liked the 1st one. Granted, it kinda followed the 1st Hellsing's idea of "lets just make some shit up," but at least it did so in a good way. Given that, I think this version will be to the 1st what Hellsing Ultimate is to the 1st series.

Oh wow, I totally didn't know about this. Thanks for the tidbit, I'll try to find a decent fansub effort then.

No Barnes & Knoble in NZ, but we do have Borders, which is pretty decent.

Go to Tokyotosho.com, that's a torrent search engine that tracks things like fansubs, scanlations, raws, etc. Not just anime and manga, dorama too.
EDIT:
Found a group doing it that's reportedly decent.
(

(

As long as I can get decent video quality and understandable Good English soft subs, then I'm content.

What I want to know, the really big issue in the anime world these days, is whether they'll air Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2.
They announced 28 episodes, broken into "two runs", to start 2 weeks ago. But then when that started, the first episode was a re-run from the first season (which had 14 episodes), and that's still going now. But it stands to reason that when that's over in 2.5 months or so, the next 14 episodes will be new episodes, effectively Season 2. It's just strange that they haven't officially announced it and are being so mysterious about it, though it is admittedly a hype-engine. If there are new episodes, they've already been made. But nobody is saying anything...
But the worst joke, what people fear, would be if the next 14 episodes are a re-re-run of the first episode in chronological order (since there are two orders to the show, original broadcast and chronological order, which are sometimes called "runs", the same word when they said "two runs"). They haven't said "no, it isn't that" yet either!
So here's crossing our fingers... They certainly know how to get a crowd worked up.

Haruhi Suzumiya tries way too hard, it's quite sad - in that pathetic kind of way.

You take that back!
