I got a couple full spectrum light bulbs made by GE, 100 Watt Reveal bulbs, and I can't tell any difference from the normal soft white bulbs. Are other brands better or are they just not anything that special in general? I heard claims that they usually raise one's mood and make reading easier on the eyes, but I can't tell any difference. Does anyone have an opinion?

can't say they improved my mood, or anything, but they did make the room feel slightly more inviting than regular bulbs. not really sure why, the light just seems less artificial.

Many people living up north really seem to feel the difference, having some of those lights set up for the long, dark winters. After a few weeks of darkness you really start to miss sun light.

I found them a bit odd to adjust to, but they are very close to daylight. I think they can help with reading a bit, but the effects are probably quite subtle. I'm not sure anyone can expect to suddenly feel great during the dark winters.

IMO, it's a whiter light without being cold. I like 'em, and I wish compact fluorescents could pull the same trick off, what with us going green and everything.

100 watt bulbs? Has global warming not reached the west coast of America or something?
[EDIT: doesn't sound as snappy now I've read doctorfrog's post but oh well]

a whiter light whithout being cold. That's a 4000k fluro at about 20w right?
I'm not usually one to dispute the difference exluding or reinstating light and sound on the edges of our perception can make, but for anyone not living through an antarctic winter this sounds like a huge con.

I had a 60w reveal, and then I got a 20w full spectrum flourescent, and the color of the light isn't anywhere near as nice as the incandescent, and I can't tell a damn bit of difference in the power bill.
