So... The AI sucks, then? XD

Are the core mechanics of designing each move the same as the first game? Did you find any interesting or noteworthy iterative improvements to the core interface, controls or abilities?

It's mostly the same, the only big difference I noticed is that whereas previously you'd set an aim-direction for you units, now you have them aiming at a certain spot, and they'll turn as they move so they keep aiming straight at that spot. Also the spot is marked by a diamond-shaped "focus area", your units will fire quicker at enemies within the focus area.

Well 2 of them did just stand in the middle of the building looking at each other throughout the whole thing. I think that's mainly the game keeping the difficulty easy for the first few levels, rather than poor AI.

Heh. I couldn't really get into Frozen Synapse 1. I'd iterate until I got too bored to iterate any more. Something like that where I'd spent lots of time looking at possibilities for any little thing those guys could do, and they never do anything, that would annoy me even more than the FS1 tendency for them to bum rush you to their doom.

Man this thing is crashing A LOT. In an earlier mission it crashed 3 times, and just now it crashed when loading the level in a freshly-started game. At least the game autosaves at every turn so you'll never loose anything but your most recent carefully laid plans.
While I'm on a roll complaining about things I also wanna point out that the story and faction-stuff is really overwhelming early on in the game. My head is spinning from the dozen or so characters that get introduced right away and their backstories and interpersonal relationships. Also other players keep bugging me with multiplayer-invites although I've clearly indicated with the RED LIGHT that I do not want to play multiplayer. COME ON, PEOPLE.

Jeez. That was a major community complaint with the original game which it took them ages to fix, and people were really irritated by it. I can't believe they've gone and done the same thing in the sequel.
I'm sorry to hear how unstable it is. I saw similar comments at GOG. I'll not be picking this up before the Linux release in any case, but I'm not inspired to get it in its current state regardless of platform. My biggest problem by far with the original was with bugs, and I was hoping the extended development period of this one meant they'd waited to get it rock solid. Perhaps they needed a larger beta test pool...
