I'm pretty confused why everyone here is so negative about this game. Can anyone let me know why everyone hates this before even having played it?
I doubt you will find that everyone dislikes it for the same exact reasons, but for me, it's partly because the reboot seems to take the series too far away from what I consider to be the core gameplay ingredients of the series (slow immersive stealth, eschewing metagame elements in favour of a more direct simulation, and a high degree of player agency) and partly because of the thematic differences (the minimalistic storytelling, heavily noir and steampunk influenced setting, and the architectural mishmash of places seem to have been replaced with a more generic grimdark setting and drama).
I don't like QTEs, cinematic action scenes, and over the top violence.
I don't like that you are limited by invisible rails when navigating high places.
I don't like the idea of timed sequences.
I don't like the game switching to third person view and kill cams.
I don't like the hand-holding elements such as the minimap, loot glint, inner voice delivered directions, and focus assisted superhuman abilities such as seeing through walls.
I don't like that there's only a ternary light gem.
I don't like the shroud or the hands constantly in view.
I don't like RPG progression in a Thief game.
I don't like the silent fast swoop ability.
I don't like that you can't jump and lean freely.
I don't like that you can shoot the rope arrows only at specific spots.
I don't like the idea of going into a swordfight with a blackjack.
I don't like how Garrett looks (or even that he's so prominently in the picture).
I don't like that they are bringing in modern swearing.
I don't like that they are dropping some of the more fantastical elements of Thief.
I don't like that they have dropped Stephen Russell for no good reason.
I don't like that there is not going to be any of Eric Brosius's awesome ambiance.
I don't hate the reboot, but these are some of the reasons why I don't like it and why I will at best watch it be taken apart on Spoiler Warning.

Nice summary Starker, overall I share the same reasons. :thumb:
I would add preorder DLC to the list.
What I dislike the most is the apparent lack of freedom in gameplay, the fact you can't jump freely or shoot your rope arrow anywhere for example. That was my biggest concern since the beginning, and after E3 footages I lost interest for this game.
On a side note, I would have been ok without Brosius and Russell if at least their substitutes do the job right, but so far it doesn't sound good at all :erg:
It might be a good game I dunno, but it won't be a good Thief game, so I'll pass.

Well stated, Starker. You nailed it, afaic. :thumb:
For the record, though I really enjoyed DX:HR, there were quite a few aspects that I found disappointing or just plain annoying (auto-take-downs is still a major complaint of mine). Tomb Raider Reboot, on the other hand, was one of the absolute worst newer games I've played. It embodied everything I've come to detest in a video game, plus the NuLara was nothing like the original Lara Croft (yeah, I know it's a reboot, but the overly-whiny NuLara was still a joke, imo). I felt as though TR Reboot was pretty much played for me by the devs and animators and that I was just along for the ride. That's not the kind of game that trips my trigger. If I never play another game where your immersion is constantly destroyed by QTEs (WHAT'S WITH THIS 'MASHING' KEYS THING, FFS?!), over-abundance of cutscenes, etc., I'll be a very happy gamer.

None, or very few, of those specific concerns actually bothers me much. By all means make the next Thief different. Bring it on. But it's gotta be good to be satisfying - and if what they're developing is good, they're doing a poor job of showing it.
Old Thief was a bit special. NuThief is looking insipid.

Exactly. Just because it's different doesn't necessarily mean it's bound to be terrible, and things that sound bad on paper might not make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.
That said, I have heard enough to make me concerned it's going to be too easy, too focused on cinematics and empowering the player. I'm not going to go out of my way to convince myself that EM hates me, or find ways to misconstrue every press release, every interview, every talking point as some personal insult against me, but some of the things I've seen them say makes me think they're missing the forest for the trees.
I'm probably gonna get it around release. If it's good, they hey, it's good. $60 well spent. If it's not, then I'll let my wallet take a bullet for everyone else, and warn people away from the game.

Brother Renzatic. There is no need to quote an entire post that is directly before yours, this isnt GenGame. :p

I think it's worth reiterating that I don't dislike these features just because they are different from what we have known before. I dislike them because they, or the specific implementation of them, seem to diverge too much from what for me personally is the core experience of Thief. Indeed, in another game I might actually welcome some of them.

Yeah, I know. It's a bad habit I picked up on another board. When you quote someone there, they get a notification, so you end up doing it for everyone all the time. :P
