I don't think it's a conflict of interest if they're literally self-serving - it's precisely the same interest. It would be a potential conflict of interest if they were funding competitors.

What Pyrian said. If you're willing to donate money to Inxile on Kickstarter, you shouldn't have any qualms over doing the same on a site partially owned by them. They're not hiding their involvement in Fig. You know exactly where they stand, and what your money will be used for. The only difference now is you're given a slightly more direct line to them.

I don't really get why trust in the campaigning platform is important in the first place. It's not the platform that's responsible for delivering the game. It's like distrusting the website of a studio because they run their own web servers instead of using a third party one.

Surely it would only affect the crowdfunding model if they were somehow illegally taking extra money from people? Otherwise, how can their ownership influence whether their campaign gets enough money or not?

I can see why some may be hesitant, especially in light of the recent CS:GO gambling stuff. But it seems inExile is being very transparent and they have a good track record on KS, so if anything, they are one of the few companies I would trust to launch this kind of initiative without any shadiness.
That being said, not supporting. Haven't played any of their new releases and while W2 is on my wishlist I still haven't gotten around to even buying it yet :p

I think I'll put in the minimum, at least. There are not many companies willing to make old school RPGs and I think InXile has the potential to make a really good one. Wasteland 2 was certainly not ideal, but it was a step in the right direction, so I think they can and will do better this time.

Because they co-own it?
Nah, Brian Fargo is just on the advisory board. A quick Google could've told you guys that, now you all look foolish with your diatribes about "conflict of interest".

It's on: (

Apparently, anyone who pledges at least 20$ during the first 48 hours will get a free copy of either Stasis or Underrail.

Because the formal governance mechanisms of a business ALWAYS accurately represent who has influence right?

So you all trusted Brian Fargo enough when he popped up on Kickstarter to ask for money out of good faith. You gave him $50 through the service on good faith, expecting him to pull through on the strength of his reputation.
So he took you $50, and made a game. Even came out with a big upgrade later that he released free of charge. He goes back to the same well again, but this time, instead of using another service, he plays a part in starting up another one more focused on game developers, providing him and those with him the same thing without as much overhead, and now we're all like "FUCK YOU, MAN. YOU COULD STEAL FROM ME! WHY SHOULD WE TRUST YOU?"
...cuz he could've ripped you off at any point during one of his three previous Kickstarter runs. Hell, Kickstarter could've ripped you off at any point during those three previous Kickstarter runs. Not trusting him to do the same thing he's done three times before, because he now has a part in the funding service is...well...it's entirely fucking arbitrary.
"But we don't know who's behind this new service."
YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHO WAS BEHIND THE SCENES AT KICKSTARTER, EITHER! DID IT MATTER TO ANYONE THEN? NO! THEN SHUT THE FUCK UP, TONY!
