Absolutely correct. The girl is just a story prop for the sole purpose of illustrating how far Garret has come. So what? What's your preferred approach to continuing on from that cutscene?
There isn't any "continuing on from that cutscene", as NuThief is not a sequel of TDS.

Correct again. That is indeed the key problem you need to overcome, as I stated before.
I need overcome nothing, simply because you present a non sequitur.

It makes more sense to kill off Garrett than the girl, though, as Garrett's arc was finished.
Sure, threre's a lot of sense in that, but a finished story arc never stopped anyone from reappearing before. I'm also not sure how much payoff you can get from having the girl be Garrett's ward as opposed to just being some random survivor from the streets.
Ultimately it makes sense to do whatever gives you the best story. I actually believe that the general idea of giving Garrett an independant powerful ex-ward, and seeing how they both deal with that, could lead to a good story.
(Of course, this is only tangentally related to thief 4, which has killed the girl off before the player starts the game.)

Yes, and I'm noting the similaties between the Thief 4 reboot backstory and what you would get
if you had a sequel that continued on from that final Thief 3 cutscene, and took a certain approach to that.

I don't know, Thief doesn't lend itself to story-driven drama all that well. We saw that in T3. It would be best to keep it mission-centric -- here's your briefing, here's your equipment, now go.
I think it could work if you had Garrett as the quest giver and layered the girl's objectives on top of that, maybe even some that could conflict/compete with the original ones. Then judge the outcome based on what objectives were completed and have it reflected in the next briefing or perhaps even mission. For example, rob a vault on a pure fact-finding mission and you might get increased patrols on the streets next mission.

No...Garrett's arc was not finished...not by a long shot...
The story arc of the Keepers was finished.
Keep in mind, the protagonist we have in Nuthief
is not Garrett...'tis some other character using his name.

Ooooh, I guess Erin is who he's talking about in the "Uprising" trailer.

Well now we know who "she" is.
Nope.
If you read the entire bit that Vae linked to
Erin is already dead.

So tell me, what will Garrett do as the One True Keeper™? Rob banks?
T3 not only ruined keepers, it also made it impossible for Garrett to go back to his old self.

Oh yes, it's in his dreams isn't it?

The way I see it, it's going to probably be that Garrett feels guilt over Erin's death who haunts him in his sleep.
What else it could be, now that we have the information we have from the Polygon article ITT?

The twist will be she's still alive at the end and is the right hand woman of the big bad guy. Garrett will be be conflicted over the whole thing. Drama!
