By the way, can you refresh my memory with a link? I'd like to witness the extend of the lie.
That is jtr7's department, unfortunately he was driven away from TTLG for the time being. Maybe Dia would be inclined to go over this crap *yet again*.

They may have meant it back then, but you didn't really buy it, didn't you? Fans are not only overestimating, but naive, too.
I give you Might and Magic X: Legacy. They have incorporated as many features as possible through direct communication with us hardcore fans of the series. And they even just released an early game version for us to play and give even more input.
The difference is that they care about the Might Magic series and want to make a real game for the series that we love. NuTeam has absolutely no interest in the Thief series itself or the original fans. They mistakenly thought they could take the Thief name and make a ton of money off of it, with no regard to the franchise.

No thanks, GmD; don't want to waste time & forum space on those links. I guess as far as some 'newer' members are concerned, if we can't provide immediate links for their immediate edification then it didn't happen. *facepalm*
@Psychomorph: What? Do you think we're making up all this stuff about having had extensive dialogue with EM shortly after they announced Thi4f and then suddenly being shut out with all communications going into a black-out phase shortly thereafter? Are you accusing us of lying about this or are you accusing EM of having lied to us? Regardless; it happened. Try using the 'search' button; that's what it's there for.

I guess there is still some good in this world then.

I didn't accuse you of lying, I accused them of lying.
I haven't been very active on ttlg at all, so the "extensive communication" as you name it is a surprise indeed. I would very much like to read the conversations (not asking for links, I try to dig in myself, but gimme at least nicknames I can search for).
So as it seems they really meant to do good, but as I always believe, the suits'n'ties are always on the trigger and at the end forced things into another direction. The devs couldn't just apologize and say "sorry, Thief's fokkd now", so they just shut the communication down. No surprise really.

Right, which makes statements like this seem almost comical in light of the past:

There is a definite tendency towards making statements along the lines of 'this game will be the worst thing ever no matter what they do to it' on this forum, however. I wouldn't pay any attention to people who have already declared they are going to hate anything I do.
They asked us for input, we gave it, they took a dump on us. Can you blame us for being upset, and that isnt even considering the mockery that they have presented to us in recent months.
Hey psycho, check (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139219) this thread out.
This is a good thread for all of us to read and remember, now that time has passed, and actual details about the game have been realized.
Its interesting to see the various speculations that were made, and its haunting in a way that some of these speculations were obviously made in a joking manner, and have come to pass... ;)
Either way psycho, as Dia pointed out, the search function is our friend.

Goldmoon, I don't doubt that EM said they would come to us for opinions or whatever but I don't remember the specific forum posts. Do you have links?
Regardless, they don't have any obligation to listen to us, no matter what they said, and that's what makes all this entitlement bs so bad. Some of you are whining like dumped boyfriends -"Whyyyyyy won't you love me? Waaaaahhh".
Seriously, that's how pathetic it sounds.
I was one of the biggest "defenders" of Thief 4 for the longest time, until they revealed some of their really odd decisions, based purely on the fact that we didn't know what they were really planning.
But before they revealed the really bad stuff, when we only had art direction to go on really, people were wailing and gnashing teeth and that, really, was all that EM needed to see to say "Wtf? F@ck THIS sh!t right off." and just get on with it.

That's pretty much what I mean, too.
Cool if they wanted to communicate, but they were not obligated at any point and they have the unfortunate right to ignore us and do what the heck they want with Thief. We may be pissed off, nobody cares. We are irrelevant.

Being upset is your right. I can relate.
But what's going on here is far from just some people "being upset".
If you have to expect being personally attacked for not conforming with the apparent "ttlg.com-party-line" and actually daring to
like ("Sacrilege! Burn them on the stake!") the game presented so far, that's past the "just upset" part.
And that's where I start to have trouble relating.

At a basic level, we are entitled because they want our
money. This community, the fine work of our FM authors, and this site, have kept Thief relevant all these years. I like to think that we matter. I love these boards, and the spectrum of people that populate it. We are all taffers who love Thief and want to see a good game, a good
Thief game. I do not think it is unreasonable for EM to at least consider what we are saying. This does not mean we are entitled to have every whimsical idea and community input be implemented but our views, the ones we all agree on should at least be considered. You're right, they are not obligated to listen to us but it would be in their interest to. Do you think EM is making this game for free and we should be grateful for whatever they put out? The only control any of us have is with our dollars. Money talks, bullshit walks.

You make it sounds like you bankrolled it.
