Garrett is also somewhat of a specialist in that he targets big items or pay days - you won't find him in some back alley holding up a peasant for a few coins.
Hmm... Couldn't you mug people in the streets in TDS? I remember something like that mentioned in the loading screen tips.

When he doesn't have a big job and just needs some cash he's absolutely the kind of guy who would do a thievery in the street.
I don't get why people are romanticising him. He's a thief.

People will continue to misunderstand and Gallagher needs more practice.
I wouldn't touch the word feminine (or masculine) with a barge-pole, myself. Too open to misinterpretation, and way too loaded.

I would add that a challenge has to be measured against the pressure of getting caught or not.
You're just making the same mistake as GD. The challenge has nothing to do with stealth, so "getting caught" simply has nothing to do with Gallagher's statement at all.
Starker, you're right: you can mug people in T3. You can also steal from the little guy whenever an opportunity comes up in T1 and T2. Off the top of my head you get more opportunities in T2.

Except for all the times he nicks the servants possessions, clears out small apartments, and steals peasants wallets in back alleys. SE is right about this, he's a thief. His moral compass exists, but it's pretty loaded towards 'screw everyone that's not me'.

Oh, and do you really think this is the only place that criticises EM's attempt to redefine Thief?
Do you really think I was arguing against criticism
per se in my post? I'm sorry if my English was ambiguous, but I believe not.

This is thief 1's story in a nutshell:
Are you good enough to rob the sword? Ok, looks like you're pretty good. So, are you good enough to rob the eye? Geez, you're pretty awesome aren't you? Well, ha ha! Jokes on you! Bet you're not awesome enough to rob a god! Oh, you are that awesome? Well damn.
Robbing the sword from Constantines Mansion was a pretty difficult challenge, especially the first time you played through Dark Project. Robbing the Eye? Dont you remember your first time through Dark Project?!?! The Haunted Cathedral and Return To The Haunted Cathedral were long drawn out atmospheric experiences of the time, and they were indeed difficult challenges to overcome. And highly memorable ones at that!
Remember the cutscene after you steal The Eye. Classic legendary stuff, after which you are thrown into Escape broken, torn, and tattered. The rest of the game plays out with even more epic and classic moments leading up to the "legendary robbing of a God". The whole game has a powerful momentum that builds and builds.
Fast forwarding to 2014 and NuThief, with its homophobic emo questioning of NuGarretts belief system, values, and guilt over plying his trade cannot and will not be a greater challenge than what the real Garrett accomplished in Thief: The Dark Project.
Period.

You did suggest that EM doesn't communicate with TtLG because a number of people here dislike many things that they put out, no?

Well, I always felt he's being romanticized in the games themselves. Maybe that's why. I view him as an Arsene Lupin of sorts.
He is a thief, that's for sure. But then again, many video-game protagonists are serial killers, so maybe that's not so bad :p .

I think he's implying it's because many TTLG Thief fans actually CAN'T be pleased.
We even had a poll where one of the choices was "I won't buy it no matter what" and some people chose that! Best Thief game ever? Nope won't buy it. Thief game made just for you, designed based on you dreams? Nope. A scene for scene recreation of Thief 1? Nope.
Yeah, I wouldn't pay attention either.
Goldmoon Dawn on 25/8/2013 at 14:15
Dude, they obviously dont care about Thief itself other than a chance to cash in, so why would they care about TTLG?
