It looks as if the ending of TDS was a bad influence after all...

Garrett's new story?...Right...It's a new story for a new character, who happens to be named Garrett.
Going back to The City, and the world of Thief?...What a crock.

Well that's certainly interesting. Especially this bit:

determined to never kill anyone unless it was necessary.
The rest of it is... I just don't know. It's so far from what I expect Garrett to be like. This Erin character is like just what are what what?

To me, that Erin character and Garrett's mutual story sounds as if it was thought up by a 13-year old. Not that video games aren't usually like that :D, but somehow the previous Thief games managed to avoid cheap drama.
Of course it might turn out better in the actual game ;) .

Ooooh, I guess Erin is who he's talking about in the "Uprising" trailer. I didn't read too much of the article because it started to seem too spoilery. I'd rather discover this stuff first-hand when I play the game. Wonder if that mission where you work with Erin will be in the game, or is it backstory?
The differences between old and new Garrett reminds me of the difference between old and new James Bond. Previously he was mostly a cool guy with a lot of good quips who never showed too much weakness, but the newer one seems to be more conflicted, and you can sense vulnerability under the tough-guy facade. At least, that's what it seems they're going for, not sure if they'll pull it off.

I have to say, I think there's potential there. It could end up as stupid melodrama, but it could work. It'll take quite a lot to convince me that it was the right decision to use Garrett and then change him so much - why not just make the new main character a follower of Garrett? You can get interesting effects out of reinterpreting a character, but only up to a certain extent.

For all that it's a reboot, it sounds quite similar to what you get if you start with thief 3's final video, choosing to make the player Garrett, and see how it makes sense to integrate the girl into the story.
I remember quickly sketching out a very similar high level concept many years back, as a way of continuing Garrett's story while not ignoring that final scene from thief 3 and all that it implies. The key problem to overcome IMO is that the girl needs to be Garrett's apprentice, but what sort of long-term relationship can Garrett have with this girl without compromising his character? He's no father figure. It's natural to end up with two very independant and stubborn master thieves, sometimes working together, sometimes opposed, and once you have that relationship you can generate a lot of story from that.

The girl at the end of TDS was simply a story prop, used for the sole purpose of Garrett relecting and realizing how far he had come on his journey in life...to provide that simple resolve...nothing more. It's a shame that some have mistakenly misinterpreted that moment for something that it's not...Garrett is a lone wolf and would never take a child "under his wing"...Such a thing is only now being perverted by EM, as they concocted this "relatable" female teen character and Nugarrett's un-Garrett-like personality for the benefit of their pubescent target market.

Well now we know who "she" is. It was one of the things we thought it might be, building off the end of TDS. That quote was the most intriguing part of the trailer, though I don't know what to make of this setup yet.
I totally see the ballet influence now that they mention it, and it explains something that didn't sit well with me. It's a definite aesthetic statement but doesn't really connect with me. The movement is almost too stylized or extravagent to what I think of the cool efficiency of a professional thief.

Absolutely correct. The girl is just a story prop for the sole purpose of illustrating how far Garret has come. So what? What's your preferred approach to continuing on from that cutscene?
Just pretend it never happend? That's a completely valid approach, I have nothing against it (other then the fact that you are just blatently pretending that an event portrayed in a thief cutscene never actually happened, but that's not a big deal).
Another approach is to try to see how she could fit into the story if you don't pretend it never happened. And sure enough ...

Correct again. That is indeed the key problem you need to overcome, as I stated before.

It makes more sense to kill off Garrett than the girl, though, as Garrett's arc was finished.
