I think watching any teaser trailer and thinking "that's the game?" and getting upset about it is creeping into the territory of the T4A fanatics and hysterics. It's a teaser trailer - it's just supposed to be introducing the game in general. The game itself won't even be out until 2015, and will probably end up looking and playing vastly different than anything shown here.
Maybe I've got too much blind faith, but I'm on board with anything Frictional puts out. At least until shown otherwise.

Heywood, I agree with you there. I really like the gameplay in Frictional's previous games, but I'd like to see them go for a different type of setting (or better yet, a different theme than Lovecraftian horror). If they keep doing "let's tunnel deep into the heart of an unseen evil" shit even I'm going to get bored, eventually.

I'm already bored with it! :D

You admittedly don't like the source material though, putting it squarely in "not your bag" territory.

http://i.imgur.com/JjcOobe.gifThat's not what I've been saying
at all.
ONE MO' TIME:First part: Lovecraftian
themes I have no problem with, zero, zippo, zilch. Cosmic horror is a rich genre that allows for a wide array of executions and concepts. We've seen all sorts of variations, from the original ideas as created by Lovecraft himself to Mass Effect to Neon Genesis Evangelion to, shit, I dunno, that ridiculous Ben Affleck vehicle that was the adaptation of Phantoms. I am cool with cosmic horror as a concept. It is neat. I like it. Are we clear on this? Does this get through? Are you ready for the next part of this? Can I erase the board or are you still taking notes?
Second part: I don't like Frictional's games because
they are practically 1:1 copies of Lovecraft's body of work. Everything from major plot elements to vague "crawling horror" bullshit all the way down to the setting, which in Amnesia's case includes the time period is essentially Lovecraft. Not Lovecraft
ian --
Lovecraft, as in it's something he would have written. This is the fundamental problem I have with Amnesia and Penumbra,
not cosmic horror as a genre in and of itself. I like many of Lovecraft's stories, but he was
not a great writer and his stories do
not translate well into video games, with the possible exception of The Shadow Over Innsmouth. (Dark Corners of the Earth would have been a much better game if the mechanics weren't a sack of shit)
I am
fucking tired of people thinking I hate all cosmic horror because I don't like Frictional's games, despite my having to explain over and over that's not the case.
Do you understand? Finally!?

deth, if you don't care about the new game could you please just fuck off instead of hanging around the thread trying to bait people into having arguments about Amnesia?
june gloom on 14/10/2013 at 13:39
Do I have to take you to school too? I do care about the new game because (based on the live-action trailers) it may not be the same fucking thing they've been doing since they were making shitty free 2D top down games.
henke on 14/10/2013 at 14:19
I've yet to see you post anything about the new game (here, or on FB) without simultaneously taking the opportunity to talk shit about Frictional's past games. As far as I can tell the only interest you have in the new game is that it gives you an excuse to drag up old arguments again.
june gloom on 14/10/2013 at 14:30
You just keep thinking that.
Don't you have like, some sort of garbage truck sim to play instead of getting into an argument with me about my getting into arguments?

Such a good discussion you've got going here. What lucid deconstruction, laced with threads of human insight. I am ashock, averve, edged on my seat, awaiting the final curve this vast intellectualism swerves through before it ploughs into the snowbank at the end that is NO ONE GIVES A FUCK.
Hm, I can almost be as obnoxious as you, even without the personal insults. Huh. Who'd'a thunk it was that easy. Maybe that's why, in the end.
Now how about this game, huh, gents?
