Right. GBM has finally entered the ranks of the DX-Heads.
What a lovely game this is turning out to be. I don't know how far I've got yet in terms of percentage, but I've just arrived in Hong Kong.
I'm carefully avoiding spoilers, so don't tell me what's going to happen (and don't use the UBB Spoiler code, either: I have a pathological need to look at them...) but here's a few notes from what I've done so far (in no particular order):
-----
First of all, it was painfully obvious to me that Paul was NSF the first time I showed up at Battery Park. I don't know what it was about his demeanor, but I realised it at once. I wasn't too surprised to find him at the 747 with Lebedev.
Speaking of Lebedev, I found it necessary to cap Navarre for executing Lebedev. Needless to say, Gunther was not pleased. But I spent an awfully long time when I got back to Battery Park (when Gunther and the other UNATCO goons ambush) attempting to murder him, too. Knocked out three Security Bots, shot about 5 UNATCO troops, and managed to drive at least 8 slugs into Gunther's metal skull. I did make a savegame right there, and I will keep going back to it periodically to see if I can keep up the tunnel-popping and sniping. I intend to kill that dude. I hate him. ;)
Eliminated the troopers and the two MiBs that crashed Paul's place in Hell's Kitchen, too. Gotta love that Ballistic Defence aug (or whatever it's called). I can just stand there in the hall and duke it out.
MJ12 was surprisingly easy to escape, especially with a silenced Assault Rifle. What really shocked me, though, was to discover that the facility opened up into UNATCO HQ. That was a twist I wasn't expecting. I love those moments in games.
What I'm digging the most about DX is the way you can play like you want to. Like SS2, only better. It's so nice to have options, especially ones that affect the subsequent gameplay. I give drugs to junkies, food to the hungry, cash to the beggars, and put a bullet in the head of anyone who pulls an attitude. Random acts of kindness and violence, for this is the Nature of the GBM.
As a character, GBM Denton couldn't give a rat's ass about Grey Death, Ambrosia, FEMA, or any of the machinations going on behind the scenes. At this point, all I want to do is put Gunther down and drive a crowbar through Simons' veiny skull. Hate those guys.
I should have grabbed a sniper rifle, climbed a Security Tower at LaGuardia and eliminated Gunther when I had the opportunity. Ah, well. Next time.
And I wish to Christ I'd left those freaking Greasels in their cages... That was a mistake. ;)
So, I'm going back to the MJ12 building in Hong Kong. I think everyone's dead (gotta love those air shafts), but I still have to find a way into Flight Deck 1...
Damn, but this is a fine game.

Welcome to the world of DX GBM. I'm glad you're enjoying the game, and glad you gave it go. You're damn right it's a fine game, now if everyone out there (all those taffers that just play Thief) would get the damn game, they'd know what they've been missing out on.
I won't spoil anything for you, like you asked, but you're about 50% done with the game. That's how I always mark my progress (I'm on my 3rd time through it). I beat the game in about 33-35 hours of actual gameplay time, and usually when I do a couple of quests in Hong Kong, I'm at about 16-17 hours of gameplay. Hope this helps.

Hey GB man. I hate to kinda spoil things a little bit for you, but I figured I should tell you this for your own good and so that you won't get frustrated. You can't kill Gunther at any other time except at The Knights Templar Cathedral in Paris. Trying to go back to Battery Park and kill him is pointless because it can't be done. Oh yeah, and no offense against the other who replied, but you're actually only about 20% done if you just now arrived at Hong Kong. You still have many places to go and much to do, so keep up the DX playin man.

F_L_O,
According to you he's only 20% done. How do you gauge this? How long does it take you to get up to that point in the game? What's your total playing time?
F_L_O on 10/7/2001 at 02:16
Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way saying that the game is super freakin long. I beat the game in 12 hours my first time and my latest was 8 hours (Love the game, played through it 7 times). But, if he just got to Hong Kong he is in no way halfway done. Hong Kong is quite a long level. Plus let's not forget the frequent trips to NY, Paris, Vandenberg, New West Coast, and Area 51. So I guess you can see how I think he's only 20% done.

Oh yeah, and as far as how long I gauge it, I don't really gauge the game in anyway. I've just played DX so many times and for so long that I just know how long it is. I kinda gauge it based on how many savegames I have sometimes, since I gave 2 gigs of them (and that's just from the last 2 times through).

Oh yeah, sorry for another post, but you asked how long it took for me to get to Hong Kong: 3 hours to get there, and about an hour to beat the level.

F_L_O,
You're full of crap! Dude, do not come in these boards and post nonsense. The only way you did that is if you had cheats on and you played quake style and knew where everything was, and that is the only way (having God mode turned on). GBM, do not listen to this troll, seriously, you're about halfway done once you complete a couple of tasks in Hong Kong.
BTW F_L_O, just because you make frequent trips back and forth (Gee, thanks for the spoilers warning for GBM on this one), doesn't have anything to do with time, because all of those are... I won't stoop down to your level and spoil anything.
/me wonders how old F_L_O really is?
BackDoorBandit on 10/7/2001 at 14:01
F_L_O,
And another thing I've noticed about your post that will prove to yourself how full of it you are.

Oh yeah, sorry for another post, but you asked how long it took for me to get to Hong Kong: 3 hours to get there, and about an hour to beat the level. O.k., now do the math. Once you got to Hong Kong then, that put you at 37.5% done. Like I said, once you do a couple of tasks in Hong Kong, he'll be around halfway done.

Troll fight, troll fight!
