In Vivec (can't remember which canton, the one with the Lizard's Head bar) how do I free the slaves? They all tell me I need a key for their bracers, but I can't seem to find any.

The only slaves I can remember in Vivec are the ones in the lower part of Telvanni canton.....are these the ones you mean? If so, the key is on a male NPC wandering around that area (sorry, can't remember any more than that) and you have to pickpocket him/kill him in order to get it.

Yes, thanks for the help.
There's also a slave in the Lizard's Head Tavern that I can't find the key for. I've even searched everyone in the tavern for it, with no luck.

There are quite a number of slaves in the game that can't be freed no matter what you do, even if they tell you to find a key to their bracers......it's frustrating, because you can spend ages searching for a key only to discover that there isn't one. If you visit the slave market in Suran there are some slaves in cells who do actually have a key, but it can't be used, either to open the cell doors or to free the slaves!
The best bet if you want to find lots of free-able slaves is to raid random caverns and strongholds as many of them have slave compounds inside and you can usually find the key either in a chest or on a baddie. Try Rotheran or Hlormaren (Dunmer strongholds) for example.....

Hello.
Ditto J's and others comments about unfreeable slaves. One of my characters kills these unfortunates, because she would rather live with the dishonour of killing the unarmed than allow others to live in such a dishonourable state. But enough blathering about my multiple personablities...
I usually just cast "Detect Key" or "Beggar's Nose" spells near the slaves and in any nearby domiciles. If I can't locate a key that way, I forget the slaves - there really is no hope for them.

What is the game prize for freeing the slaves ? I never found that this would change anything in Morrowind or reveal any hidden faction.

There are some quests that Ilmeni Dren in Vivec gives you that are to do with the Twin Lamps anti-slavery people. I'm not sure if you have to be Hlaalu to get them.

I thought that freeing slaves at random would give a reputation like "slave lover skum-bag" or some dialogs lines like "people know you are a slave lover i don't give quests to the likes of you". Ah well, i supose it's my Fallout role-palying past that is making me dream about.

:tsktsk:
i do it for peace of mind. whenever i leave a place that has slaves and breathe in the open air... i haveta turn around. i can't change how i feel about slavery. geeze, they aren't even allowed to scratch their bedposts at night without fear of reprisals. poor Khajits. we all know kitties need their scratching posts. :(
anyway. i free whomever i can whenever i can.
i just pretend that everyone LOVES an abolitionist.
go me! :cheeky:

In one of the Tel towns (the one north of Sandar Mora, I think) there's a female slave trader. I was trying to pickpocket her for her keys, but she cought me. So I figured, "What the hell. One less slaver in the world." 'Course, soon as I kill her I get that "With this person's death the prophecy has been severed. Load a saved game or continue to live in the doomed world you have created."
Bah.
