Well, I honestly wasn't expecting that one any time soon.
After six and a half years of captivity in the jungle, Ingrid Bétancourt is free, along with 14 other hostages, after a flawless extraction by the Colombian army.
Six and a half years. Holy shit. I had been following this on and off since 2003, and I have to admit in the last few months I had come to seriously doubt there would be any happy ending...
Some of the others were being held for as long as ten years! I can't even begin to imagine how hard that must have been.
Awesome news.

Yeah, this is great news.
I remember a huge banner with her face on it being hung up outside the town hall in Paris whilst I was working there - so that noone would forget, I believe.
I guess they can take that banner down now. :D

I was hearing from a Colombian friend about the epic march against Farc they had recently in Bogota. I know he's happy about this. One step closer to normalcy in a country that needs it.

FARC became pack of wild dogs and I blame CIA for that. :thumb:

Sadly this is at least partially true.
Great to hear that they're finally out of there.

I think it's funny how we snagged a few hostages of our own on the way out:ebil:
