Looks less like "inspired by Settlers 2" and more like "murdered the original Settlers 2 and is now wearing its face as a mask".

(
http://www.infinitespacegames.com/digital-eels-brainpipe-and-data-jammers-games-are-now-free/) Digital Eel's Brainpipe and Data Jammers games are now FREE
Adding to their already-sizeable list of originally-for-money original games. I'm impressed by Digital Eel's willingness to cut the price of their old (and not so very old) games to nothing. You can find them all at (

I'm a big fan of
Brainpipe. As an avoid-em-up arcade game it's utterly different to the Infinite Space games, but is definitely my favourite Digital Eel game after those ones. The whole audio-visual experience is great; the gameplay and controls are smooth and responsive; and playing a perfect game (100 glyphs) is very satisfying.
Data Jammers had me feeling pretty ambivalent about it to start with, but it grew on me somewhat. Hardly overwhelming praise, I realise, but it's nicely made, and certainly worth checking out as a freebie. I previously said of it:
Quote:
The previous impressions of only being "along for the ride" are partly due to inexperience, and partly due to the nature of the game. It quite intentionally throws a lot of things at you, and the challenge of the game is in attempting to keep on top of everything that is happening, in order that you will be able to react quickly enough to respond to a given threat or scoring opportunity.

Since the TTLG Saturday coop sessions seem to be resulting in some people warming up to
Arma, this might be of interest: (
https://store.bistudio.com/products/project-argo). It's a free 5vs5 game based on the
Arma 3 engine and set on
Operation Flashpoint's Malden.

Little Big Adventure 2 is free for the next ~43 hours on (
https://www.gog.com/) gog.com!
LBA 2 is a great little (big) game that makes my nostalgia-meter go through the roof. :D It's been at least ten years since I last played it though, but at least it was a lot of fun back then. I can't believe that this game's nearly twenty years old...
