Shame, really, since the backstory could have developed into something,
You're missing the point, games that are akin to Painkiller and Serious Sam are supposed to have either paper-thin, non-existent plots or laughably bad ones. NecroVision is an example of the latter, but the gameplay, level design and art direction are glorious though.

Ah. Guess it's just not my type of game, then.

Until 24th December GOG.com are offering Tex Murphy 1 and 2 ('Mean Streets' and 'Martian Memorandum', fact fans) for (
http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/tex_murphy_1_2) absolutely nothing.
If, like me, you've already bought them, there's an alternative gift option as well, but it sounds like what it will be will vary from person to person - check your account page to see what you have.

It's on, baby!
Played it for 30 minutes to get a feel for it - looks fun, but there wasn't much "Team" going on and that would've been a major selling point for me.
Or maybe I just landed on a bad server? Or just one with 90% newbies (damn noobs, I wish they'd just get off my game!)? Are there any servers where there's actual team play involved?
Also I can't hit squat with the rocket launcher or the sniper rifle or the various secondary weapons (shotguns, uzis etc.)... At least I can hit my own teammates with the healing gun most of the time ;)

The only real way to get a team going is to hang around a server long enough (and make sure it's one with a fairly high ratio of decent players:screaming clan faggots) to get to know the regulars. Like just almost any multiplayer game ever, "team" doesn't really exist, you just hop on and hope your teammates are more helpful than hindrance.
Alternately you could just go pyro and burn some motherfuckers. I swear, King of the Hill was made for me.

Are any of the RPGs from (
http://rpgmaker.net/) worth a playthrough? And I mean ones that stand on their own without being fanboy spinoffs of Final Trigger and Chrono Fantasy. I suppose JRPG-style is acceptable as long as it doesn't assume I know about or give a crap about other JRPGs.
I'm looking to round out my netbook arcade with a few free CRPGs (I already have Barkley Shut Up and Jam).
