Via RPS, the first of the Unreal dev kit projects, Prometheus. It's a clear take on Portal, as it's a physics-rule-breaking sci-fi puzzle game, has lots of white walls and rounded corners and is curiously empty and dead inside. You command a small squad of quantum clones of yourself, one by one, in the same space of a few minutes, rewinding each time.
I've played only a few levels, and, like Portal, it's a decent enough puzzle game. Again, like Portal, a lot of the gameplay seems to be hold-the-door-open-for-me puzzles. Not as much polish, but worth a download.

You know, for some reason I thought I had posted a thread about (
http://www.talesofgames.com/barkley/) Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden when it came out, but apparently not. Possibly the greatest freeware game I have ever played. Add it to DA LIST. Also, the full title (Tales of Game's Studios Presents Chef Boyardee's Barkley, Shut Up & Jam: Gaiden, Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa) may well qualify as the longest game title ever.
Oh holy fuck, that was real?

I'm guessing that it's not as lame as it sounds. What is it, an RPG?

Yeah, you don't remember when I talked about it a while back? It is an interesting old-school styled RPG>

This is the most awesome high-concept RPG ever created. I don't even *like* basketball, but the sheer consistency and insane meta-referential basketball-based universe is brilliant.
Enchantermon on 9/11/2009 at 21:09
Well, I don't really care for basketball either, so if it can be enjoyed in spite of that, I guess I'll give it a try.
gunsmoke on 14/11/2009 at 16:58
It has almost nothing to do with basketball. Hell, just read the wiki on it. It is nothing like what the title implies.
doctorfrog on 14/11/2009 at 20:02
I don't know why this is, but seeing basketball referred to repeatedly as 'b-ball' in the game screenshots strikes me as really, really funny. Has anyone even said 'b-ball' since 1989?
Enchantermon on 15/11/2009 at 02:21
"B-ball" was still popular in the 90s, iirc.

http://i34.tinypic.com/bg8b46.jpgIt's a simple fighter game with over-the-top combos. I used to like fighter games, when they were this simple. There was a brief period in the nineties where there was something of a blood splatter arms race between fighting games. I miss those times, because I am old, and because they were good times.
Inline Image:
http://i33.tinypic.com/33vm36h.jpgThe fighters look like they were drawn in MSPaint, but they animate quite well. The style is a weird mix of Asian and American horror, heavy on the Asian, but not too derivative. Then again, what the hell do I know.
I've had a few drinks, it's well past midnight, the heater's been on too long, and this game is kind of making me feel weird.
I have to say, though, I really like Animus. He just seems like he's having
such a good time.Inline Image:
