It should be noted that a good many of these games benefit from (http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey%20English%20Version.htm) Joy2Key.

This great tool allows you to map keyboard and mouse input to gamepads. Many great little 2D platformers don't support gamepads, and playing a platformer on a keyboard is a terrible thing, and you should feel terrible for doing it.
