I spent at least an hour playing Gang Garrison 2. That's pretty neat!:)

a limbo of the lost "demake" lol
edit again: Wow, been checking out this tigsource site.... Thanks to doctorfrog, I now know of a cool indie game site. Thanks man
edit hours later: While browsing that tigSource site, I found a game called
Survival Crisis Z, which is of course free. Rather than explaining it myself, go here: (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survival_Crisis_Z) And here's the dude's website with the download: (
http://skasoftware.com/)
Basically it is a sandbox-like zombie apocalypse game and there's two modes. Arcade and Story.

I'd normally pace myself, but a Metroid remake just hit a release, and I wanted to give everyone that gave a crap the chance to get it in whatever state it might be before someone powerful shut it down.
(
http://metroid2remake.blogspot.com/)
It's based on the only Metroid I've ever played, that is, Metroid II: The Return of Samus, released in six glorious shades of green on the original Game Boy. This version, at least graphically, appears to be brought well up-to-date.
This hasty post brought to you by a paranoia that saw a (
http://www.teardown.se/)
promising remake of Space Hulk get shut down by short-sighted property holder.

3. Aquarium (?)
7. Squish (?)
Aquarium is definitely a demake of (
http://www.bit-blot.com/aquaria/) Aquaria, and Squish is apparently a demake of "Crush".

You've also got (
http://metroidsr388.com/) Metroid: SR388 to look forward to, which looks even better in my opinion.

Play this through to the end! (It'll take maybe 15 minutes.)

(god knows why, but the forum is converting ". swf" into a heap of asterisks... you'll have to remove the space manually)

I've been toying with some free Wargames: (
http://www.freewargamer.com/windows.aspx)
Steel Panthers, (
http://linetap.com/www/drg/SPCamo.htm) WinSPMBT and WinSPWW2, are incredibly sophisticated for being free -- hex-based/turn-based, WinSPMBT for modern war, WinSPWW2 for WW2, and have 100s of scenarios. They're open-sourced versions of the original commercial games plus another 10 years of development.
Others on that list that I like so far are Steel Panters WAW, TripleA (an Axis & Allies clone), and Freeciv (a Civilization clone), and Battle for Wesnoth (like a simpler Civ in a fantasy setting) is getting good reviews.
Here's another (
http://apcmag.com/top_5_best_free_open_source_games.htm) list I ran into in the meantime.

(
http://cactusquid.proboards99.com/index.cgi?board=games&action=display&thread=134) Xoldiers is a (
http://www.cactus-soft.co.nr/) Cactus game, which should be enough to go on.
In case it ain't, here's a brief synopsis. You command a small troop of soldiers, each consisting of fewer than nine pixels, in a rectangle formation, against tanks, barracks full of enemy soldiers, and truck-spewing factories. Goal: blow up castles. You have machine guns, grenades, and the ability to go prone. And die by the half-dozen. Glitchy soundtrack, wonderful pixellated explosions.
