God of War 3 is safely the
third-worst in the PS2/3 God of War
trilogyI'm still trying to figure out if this is meant literally or ironically. (Personally I'd consider
GoW2 the third-worst of the trilogy, though
GoW3 has some of the best setpieces of the series.)
Concerning 'spectacle fighters', I'm not usually a fan of them (if
Bayonetta and
Devil May Cry are considered spectacle fighters, neither of them were my cup of tea), but I've enjoyed the
GoW games on PS2 and PS3 quite a bit - perhaps also because I never felt that my fingers had to have PhDs in Combology and Combonomy to win them. I expect to find some sequences rather cringeworthy on replaying them, though, in particular the puerile sex scenes and some of the more "my, aren't we edgy?" violence. Sometimes the franchise uses its over-the-top violence to characterise Kratos, but sometimes it veers into edgelord idiocy.

Shirley, you jest! I meant it both ways. In that it sort of isn't as good in terms of arcane asshole level design as GoW 1, or as streamlined and well-paced as GoW 2, and instead approaches some sort of uncomfortable middle position between the two. It's a trilogy in the same way the Hithchiker's Guide to the Galaxy turned out.
But for reals: GoW 3's story took a retread/redemption approach that didn't offset my aching fingers once it was done. Like, okay, visit Hades again, bust back out into the land of the living again, kill people and gods in unnecessarily violent Greek tradition again, and earn yourself a measure of peace in the end via a popular piece of Greek mythology (Pandora's Box). *snore* Story-wise and gameplay-wise, it suffered from being massively predictable. But it did look spectacular throughout!
Also, GoW 2 is the best game out of the lot, and I will fight you for it.

Third-worst of the trilogy = best, right? As with cats, we're in agreement, it seems. Which obviously means we'll meet on the battlefield, pistols at dawn, all that jazz. If we can't try to kill each other over agreeing, what's the point of it all?

Ah, my lack of coffee has dulled my semantic edge, it seems. Yes, you're right. We're still on like Donkey Kong, though. In Nur. With ghillie suits. Let's go.

Ok I haven't played GoW3 yet, but I did find a real gem in the latest PS+ collection. No, not Destiny 2, I gave up on that right after the prologue had stopped. I'm talkin' bout SPARKLE 2, BABY!!!!

Shadow Warrior 2 is currently available for free on GOG as a part of their 10th anniversary celebrations.

Here's a big one.
Destiny 2 is free until 18th. All you have to do is log into your battle.net account and claim it, or start a new account if you don't have one.
Legit free forever. Probably as some sort of promo to sell more DLC down the line.
I'll be picking it up. Free is a good price for me to try it out and see what the fuss is all about.

I've recently gone cold turkey from Destiny 2 after getting my main character to top light level.
It really is a great game, and the Forsaken expansion in particular is fantastic. But after a while, you're just playing the same content over and over just to keep up with the Joneses. The same thing that plagues most MMOs. I really don't like what these games do to me and how they monopolise my time, and I really should stay away from them.
I feel a bit guilty about it, as half the appeal is playing with friends on a day to day basis, and when you leave that game, you leave those friends behind, because they're as hooked as you were.
And of course, I'm sure publishers are relying on this heady cocktail of competitive camaraderie to keep players coming back on a day to day basis, in order to maximise their exposure time to monetisation schemes.
And it works.
Just before giving the game the cold shoulder, one of the last major achievements I had was playing and completing the new raid. While doing it, I noticed that a bunch of the guys had a new skin for one of the new weapons, a skin that can only be bought with cash. I know exactly what went through these people's minds as they justified the expense to themselves (I've experienced the same failure of judgement myself), and I'm sure these systems have been designed to exploit this kind of thinking:
"I want that skin because it's different!"
"It costs a lot, but I'm supporting the developer by buying it!"
"I want that because my friend has it!"
Sorry if this posts a bleak picture, but just be aware of what you're getting in to if you decide to take the plunge.
