Doesn't look like anybody's placed this in the list yet. [...]
It's in the first post of the thread. ;)

Does anybody know if it [AvPG] FINALLY works as it's supposed to with new Forceware?
I'm lazy to try out.
Hmm, hadn't tried running that in a long time.
...
Nope - with 93.71, I tried starting a new Alien game at 1280x1024x32 and the "menu music" was skipping and stuttering badly, and when the game started, I could see nothing except pitch black. Hmmm.. I forgot to try the vision modes...
Too lazy to check again right now...

Binary Zoo has a new game!

echoes is essentially our take on Asteroids & to save anyone else the trouble of making the comparison, yes, it's also "a bit like Geometry Wars" :)
I also need to mention the very best Gravitar/Thrust-like game I've ever seen, bar none. Behold, the awesome (
http://xout.blackened-interactive.com/Gravitron.html) Gravitron.
You'll also find a link there to Thrust Extreme, which is also quite nice (and has an optional new 'rope'-style tractor beam which is a good laugh), but I'm always much harsher on Thrust remakes just because I spent so long playing the original, so I'm less enthralled with that one personally. You may well love it, however :)

Looks great. Any ideas how to fix this though? :(

Fixed. Rebooting is good for you, apparently.

@ Shadowcat...
Hey, that Echoes is bloody awesome! :D It don't take long until the screen is full of exploding things! :D It reminds me of another Asteroids clone, (I forget what it's called), which was featured in a copy of PC Gamer. Anyone remember the name of that one? The screens in that one got filled with millions of pixels!

So I've recently been utterly addicted to (
http://typhoon.kuto.de/) Typhoon 2001, a remake/update of the Jaguar title "Tempest 2000", which was of course an update to the original classic arcade game "Tempest".
Now I never had a Jaguar, and I have to say that I never enjoyed "Tempest", but this game pretty much rocks.
The author has been making frequent updates, and the latest release -- 1871 (28.01.2007) -- is definitely the slickest and trippiest yet. Check it out.
Jesus, has this thing improved. Last time I tried it, it was framebuffer blurring the fuck out of the visuals, which made it extremely hard to Make Stuff Out. On top of that, it used to be slow as molasses - 640x480 was just barely playable on my current rig.
This release, instead, keeps the spirit of Tempest 2000 almost perfectly, and runs perfectly at 1360x768 even with anti-aliased lines. Mad props to the author. This is
AWESOME.
This is the best Tempest remake I've played outside of 2000. It's that fucking good. I only have a few minor gripes, most if which are miniscule balancing tweaks:
- The bonus stages are missing. This is my biggest beef with the game, because the calm, soothing pace of those things every five to ten levels was a very welcome change from the insane gameplay.
- While the PULSAR WARNING is nice, the game really needs to highlight corridors that pulsars are on. Tempest 2000 did this in a subtle way (by just flashing the borders of that corridor), and it makes pulsars MASSIVELY less frustrating.
- minor balance tweaks I'd like to see are enlarging the time window in which you can shoot flippers on the rim from a jump and re-introducing the ability to shoot flippers on the rim without jumping by just holding still when they flip onto the corridor occupied by you. This didn't work ALWAYS in T2k actually - if the flipper hopped onto your corridor when you just had the gap in between two salvoes of shots, you'd die.
Other than that, fucking BRILLIANT. This will stay on my hard drive for a long time.

My two pieces of advice are:
(a)
Remember that you get a superzapper (smart bomb) every life and every level. Don't shy away from using 'em.To that I'll add that it's generally wise to try and keep the zapper around until after you've gotten the Jump, or possibly until you get the score powerup after that. If you fire it before then, particularly the later levels in the game can get EVIL.

This site focuses on games that were great but just didnt get a fair shake the first time around. Sound familiar? :D Lots of gems here! Most free, some cheap. Flight unlimited 2, System Shock 1 and 2, Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri are a few of the Looking Glass games. Screen shots and a brief description of games included, it's a very well done website. Ultima IV too.
