Free Space Fluctuation. - by marshall banana

This is freaking me out. At some random moment, my computer said that I was low on disk space. I thought to myself "What the hell is this thing talking about? I've got plenty of space!" Then it says that I have less than the recommended 200 MB of space, so I checked the free space I had on my C drive. Lo and behold, I had 94 MB of space left. I looked again a couple seconds later, and I had 74 MB. Then is kept getting lower, until it reached around 60 MB. Then it started going back up, hundreds at a time, until it reached 1.9 Gigs. Seriously, what the hell?

Old games (win98 era) will frequently misread free disk space. Not sure how your OS can be so off though. How did you check it?
And here I was hoping this was about the game Free Space...

I checked it through My Computer, looking at the properties of my C drive.

Do you have Eraser installed? Or some sort of defragmenter?

I don't have Eraser, and the only defragmenter I know of is the one that comes with Windows.

It's possible that either your page file is set to automatic, or some game or application crashed and the windows crash logging tool (Dr. Watson) made a dump of the memory, which it then deleted for whatever reason. So check your virtual memory settings first and set your page file to a fixed size (usually 1.5x your RAM).

More likely is that Windows automatically deleted system restore information to free up disk space because you were running so low.
