I got the same impression and I'm glad you mentioned it. 2-D fractals are hypnotic and mesmerizing in their planar world- this 3-D Mandelbulb reminds me of somehow pure torment. A shape constantly being distorted and warped into millions of other shapes, continuously, with no rest- that's just the aesthetic impression I got from some of those images.
It's beautiful certainly and I'm going to read up on the maths.
Also, I want to eat one of them.
