I work in IT, and I also do tech support frequently (although I do it for mainframe computers, so if I suggested turning it off and on again, or restarting the program I would be shot). But every time I have an internet problem, and I need to call my ISP tech support, invariably they suggest turning the computer off, then on again. The first minutes of the conversation are usually spent with me trying to convince them that I actually do know what a computer is.

Damn, a collegue of mine who knows how to turn computer on, launch Word, IE and Winamp an then turn it off, has swapped this job for an online IT tech support. And I who consider myself as a quite advanced user, I don't dare to do it.
That means tech support jobs are for dilettantes.
