Hi all, just got the game yesterday and I'm having some FPS issues, I mean i know it's not going to ever play as smooth as a true FPS, but I thought I would just start a dedicated thread for people to post their experiences with tweaking the game for better performance.

If you're running up to a NPC to talk to them, always stop and wait a few seconds before beginning dialogue. Otherwise the menus can get laggy. Same with opening up your inventory - always stare at the ground first. Obviously, running makes things choppier, especially running in a large outdoor enviroment (like the walk up to Ghostgate) or in an NPC-filled area (Balmora, Ebonheart). Try to walk when possible. For me, at least, running was the most sure-fire way to get the game to overload and kick out to windows. Those are the only in-game behavior patterns I found that make any difference. The other things would be fiddling with the Video options in the main screen.
Side notes: For some reason, Ebonheart was always my worst city to be in. Things would get SO choppy every time I was there. More than anywhere else in the game. And looking straight at the Ghostfence came in a close second. Sooooo sloooooow. (Until yesterday when I got my new Ridiculous Video Card, so now I can have pixel shading and the gorgeous water effects I've been hearing about and shadows and everything.)

Charlatan - The top thread of this board (it will always be the top thread) deals with performance tweaks you may want to try. The information is good, and everyone should be able to find something that helps them.
