Guys, for fucks sake CO2 IS increasing, and has been for the last 100 years ever since the industrial revolution kicked off.
Its a simple fact that higher CO2 levels = higher greenhouse effect = hotter temperatures. This is not debatable.
Its a fact that CO2 levels are rising.
Its a fact that people are burning Gigatonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
The carbon cycle is the normal process of plants growing, removing CO2 from the atmosphere. This CO2, however, returns to the atmosphere very quickly when the plants are eaten / rot / decompose etc. It doesn't remove any CO2 from the atmosphere. The only way that plants growing removes CO2 is if they don't die. IE if you go from a plain, to a huge forest. However we are currently de-foresting the Earth at an alarming rate.
The CO2 released from burning fossil fuels is new CO2 which is being pumped into the air. It is going to increase the concentration in the air. Rises in temperatures can actually reduce the rate of absorption by plants since they close their stomata to reduce water loss in the heat.
No one with any credible scientific training thinks that man-kind isn't contributing to global warming. There might be disagreement about if we are 100% to blame, or 50% to blame, and how bad the consequences might be. But there is no disagreement that we have some role.
I don't understand why people are so opposed to the idea. When scientists found data linking the shrinking ozone layer to CFCs, there was an international movement to ban them, and now the ozone layer is recovering and growing. Soon it will be back to the level before we started releasing CFCs into the atmosphere. No-one then was arguing "how can humans possibly be responsible for a change in atmospheric gasses?" How come they are now?
This is the reason democracy is hopeless; most people are stupid.
Look at the world's military, they are taking global warming fucking seriously. There are huge reserves of resources under the North Pole which were previous inaccessible, but now Russia, the US, and Canada are preparing for a land grab operation as the North Pole ice cover recedes. We could have an ice-free north pole in the next 15 years.
Oh, and for the record we are currently going through a solar MINIMUM. There were no sun-spots on the sun recently for the first time in ages. If the sun resumes its previous cycle then its going to start heating up again soon, and then the extent of how fucked we are will become more apparent.
