So, unforunately, I killed Bolyn Venim on an earlier Thieves' Guild Bal Molagmer quest making it impossible for me to complete the fourth trial as House Redoran will not name me Hortator. I've checked the strategy guide and they confirm that I CAN NOT be named Hortator if I've killed Venim, though they somehow neglected to mention in the Bal Molagmer Thieves' quest that killing him would cripple the main plot.......
Anyway I need help on using the editor. I don't know how to use/modify the scripts properly and I don't know that doing so would even help. I don't know if you CAN bring back dead NPCs or if making a copy of Venim will work. If anyone has a plugin(god bless anyone who has a plugin) or can give me a little information on how I'd be able to get past this I'd really appreciate it.

you can use the TES editer on the game cd for this:
Go into the editor, and find Bolyn Tenim under NPCs, then load a zone(Venim Personal Quarters, for example) and drag his name from under npcs to an area in the zone(preferably on or near the ground.
Then save it as a plugin, and load it in the data files section, then talk to him to see.
(You actually end up killing him FYI)

Just adding another instance of the "Venim NPC" doesn't work because when I killed him it triggered a global script. How to enact my own script to change it back to 0(when I killed him it set "RedoranMurdered" to 1) I haven't been able to figure out.

I became a Master of the Theives guild, and I did not end up killing anyone important to finish the game (hence I finished the game with the title as a Mastertheif).
When you usually kill someone this important, it should have given you that "you have killed someone important, reload a last saved game, etc." message.
Weird. bug?
Actually I've come across a similar problem with the same character. Although I was going for head councilman in redoran and venim wouldn't name me that so I had to get rid of him. When I did so, I didn't get the usual message you do with main plot npcs, but the other councilors asked how could i be trusted when I commit murder.
I would guess you had been caught when you killed venim or they wouldn't know you did so. You can try the ra command and then kill him another way (which I won't mention since its an unasked for spoiler heh)
Anyhow, good luck becoming the Redoran hortator, since we all know its the best house :cool:

Ok to fix via console: type these commands.
Journal "B5_RedoranHort" 50
Journal "B5_RedoranHort" 60
Player->AddItem "bk_hortatorring" 1
Player->AddItem "bk_NerevarineNotice" 1
Journal "B5_RedoranHort" 70
player->additem "bk_saryoni_note" 1
Journal "B8_MeetVivec" 1
This should update the Journal correctly and give you the items you would have received if you hadn't killed venim.
As Venim has to be killed he isn't marked as essential so the message about a doomed world never appears - probably a limitation of the script language or a bug.

The problem is that Venim has to be killed to finish the game, but only under very specific circumstances (SPOILER........ you have to slay him in the Arena in a formal duel.)
So he's probably not marked as a 'vital NPC' and hence, you get no warning when you kill him earlier. Ouch.
