Forum tags (size, URL, IMG, etc.) in FireFox. - by dj_ivocha

After the forums were upgraded, I noticed a small and very nice improvement (among all the others) - when writing a post, if I decided to insert something in the middle of the text and used the tags buttons above - for example to set the font size, the corresponding tag was actually placed where my writing cursor was :thumb:. Before the upgrade, the tags were always inserted at the end of the text.
I've always used IE (6.0 for a couple of months now).
A few days ago, I decided to switch to FireFox and encountered a couple of (forum unrelated) problems - I'll ask about them in the Tech forum. But I also noticed, that the tags are now being inserted at the end of the text, just like before the upgrade (although I used IE back then, I think it would be the same in FF). First I thought that Dave or MsLedd made some changes, but I've just tried posting in IE, and everything is fine (tags being inserted in the mid).
So, is this an issue with FF, or is only my PC going crazy?

If it makes you feel any better, none of those buttons or smilies work at all for me in Opera. You may have noticed that whenever I use smilies now, I use the ones typically used for Post Icons. This is because those are at the bottom of the box here and I can right click copy address and use them, but enhanced mode is just annoying and I use basic because of it.
I just tried it in FireTchords, and they work, but they go at the end as you said.

Hmm, just tried it to make sure - in Guided mode the tags are also placed at the end (I normally use Enhanced mode, though). In IE, Guided mode works as Enhanced.

It is an IE-only feature.

Is it possible to post the IE-only code here? Just for, you know, fyi sorta thing. Just curious, especially if it is a shortfall of Firefox's.

Try to turn on Javascript. ;)

I have seen a small workaround for the above issues (well, at least for the URL tag :)) - for example in (
http://extremeprometeia.com/forum/index.php?) this forum. There, when you want to enter a hyperlink, you aren't asked to enter some text as a description, but instead must select a word or a phrase from the text, which is then converted to a hyperlink. I have found this to be quite handy sometimes, at least now, when I use FireFox.
Is it possible to add this feature here as well? If yes, do you think it would be of any use besides for me? ;)

ummm, you mean we gotsta register at that forum to see what you mean? :wot:
and i'm not quite sure what you mean about the issue with firefox. i use the latest version,
but when i'm posting replies, enhancing them with boldness or italicized goodies,
my code wraps around what i'm enhancing. however, i highlight the word/words when i do it. and i used guided mode, which is the default, i think.
:) just exampling for you. :p

:wot: I can swear these extras and thingamabobs didn't work a month ago... :wot:
Well, I had 0.8 until now - I've just upgraded to 0.9, and everything works as you said, but only when you have selected some text - if you decide to write some new fancy text in the middle of the post, you can't *first* open the tags, and then start typing, like you'd do in IE, but instead have to write the text itself, and then select it and "tag" it... But this is more than enough, what I wanted is even less than what is actually possible :D.
The only exceptions from this rule are the URL and MAILTO tags - even if you select some text first, they'll still ask for an optional text description, and then place the whole hyperlink at the end.
Anyway, to see how the URL insertion is implemented in that other forum, use my account: dj_ivocha/1234 (nick/pass).
[EDIT] This way of first selecting text, and then formatting it with the tags works in both Guided and Enhanced modes (just tried it).
