I just joined the forums today and have set defaults to get an email if there is a reply and to add my sig (just checked in the control panel) but when I actually post these are not checked in the boxes below so I still have to check the boxes every time? It says only 'registered users' are eligible to have a sig. I would have thought only registered users could post anyway?
Also, is there an auto-login I've missed. When I log out it says it has cleared the cookies.

Are you sure you haven't just checked the "Show users signatures" box? AS far as I am aware we do not have a "attatch my signature to every post" button.
Email on reply, no idea whats going on there.
The simpliest way not to have to log in every time you visit the forums is to not logout when you leave! :thumb: Just close the browser window instead and next time you visit you should be ready to post! :D

You're right! I just saw what I expected to see. I never expected to see that I could see other's signature's by default but my own sig I have to select every time. One just gets used to a routine on other forums, etc. and it seems odd when a different system does it the opposite way. I think I'll just type it manually in future!

Mmm... I'm used to log ins timing out after a period by default unless over-ridden!

Just to add to what David explained, the "use email notification by default" feature has been disabled globally (as you noticed, it doesn't "take" when you set it to 'on' in your CP). This is because a HUGE percentage of members don't realize they have it on, and we get hundreds and hundreds of bounced email notifications daily.
You can still check email notification on any thread you'd like to monitor, either from the post/reply screen or using the "Subscribe to this thread" link at the bottom of any thread. :)
