Has there been a recent change to the forum software? Or am I getting demented in my old age in thinking that we used to have a fast reply function? If not, is that something that could easily be added?
Also, is there any way the maximum column width for thread titles in the forum view could be increased dynamically? The extent to which thread titles are curtailed on 1920x1080 is quite ridiculous:

Nope - never been enabled before except for when responding to PMs. I've temporarily enabled it and I'm happy to hear feedback. You can still press "Go Advanced" to get to the old reply window if necessary.

It was set to a pretty low value which I've removed since it was a bit silly. The forums will wrap the title on lower resolutions and it seems acceptable even down at 1024x768 (is anyone still using that?) but again, happy to tweak if it causes anyone distress.
(Also sorted out the mis-alignment of the thread information on the right since that was doing my head in looking at your screenshot).

Cool, thanks, for both. IMO they're both improvements, but let's see what others think.
Edit: Al_B - would it be possible to always have the Quick Reply box visible at the bottom, as long as you're logged in, rather than popping up when you click on "Reply to Thread"? IMO that'd increase its usability: being at the bottom and fairly narrow, it's not really in the way, but it'd allow for even quicker, easier replies. (There may be disadvantages that I haven't thought of, mind you.)

Yeah - but if that happened then everyone would realise that they could reply to threads and not just a select few...
(ok, trying it - not 100% convinced but again, happy for feedback)

Cheers! I think it makes sense and is more convenient; if you have to click once to get to a Reply form, the Quick Reply box isn't much better than the advanced reply function.

I've discussed this a bit with Al, and I'll post my opinions here as well. I was initially happy to see the quick reply, because I've thought we needed one for a long time. And I still do. I have some reservations, though.
First, I'm definitely not in favor of having it there all the time. I've never liked that when I've encountered it on other fora. That's my personal preference. I also don't like that when it's always present, it leaves the text you just typed in the reply field after you've posted it.
Second, now that I've used it a bit, I find that I don't really like not having the choice between quick reply and normal reply. I realize I can hit "Go Advanced", but that's an extra step which I wish wasn't necessary. I guess it's a question of which you prefer.
Al just informed me that you can also hit the "Reply to Thread" button twice to go straight to the advanced reply screen. That's better, and I'd be fine doing that, but it's hardly intuitive. Most people won't know to do it.

It's nice, but can you stop it from automatically applying a signature to every quick-reply post?
I thought this forum used to only show your signature on your first post in a thread anyway?
I'd completely forgotten I even had one, and solved the problem for myself by deleting mine.
Tannar on 2/12/2015 at 20:34
Yeah, that too.
Edit: I just realized that there is an option to show/not show your signature in the quick reply box. Now if only it would remember your choice.
Edit again: After thinking about it a bit, I think my preference would be to have the quick reply box there all the time, but to go straight to the advanced reply box when you click once on the "Reply to Thread" button. That way you have both options immediately at your fingertips, so to speak.

Ideally, the "Reply to Thread" button should function as it did before, taking you to the advanced screen when clicking it once. I do think that having the Quick Reply box only pop up after a button almost defeats its purpose; it's a tad quicker than waiting for the Reply page to load, but the difference is marginal.

Yeah, I was editing my post above while you posted, and I said the same thing you did.
