Is there any such program available that can allow me to boot into DOS & then format any NTFS hard drive. The Win XP setup does allow me to but it straight away begins the windows installation & so I have to cancel the installation. I have searched the internet for making my USB pen drive bootable to format NTFS drive but can't find any. Any help here guys ? :(

Try the (
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php) Gparted LiveCD. Alternately, grab the Live CD for any major Linux distribution - they usually come with gparted or qtparted, both of which can create NTFS partitions.

The other thing you can do is boot with the Win XP Cd into the recovery console. It won't force an install that way.

I tried dat but it didn't work cos the drive was not dismounting as the Windows files were in use.
Anyways, if there are other utilities available the pls let me know.

I'm rather fond of Partition Magic. You can format, resize and clone partitions straight from the boot CD. You do have to pay for it though.

They certainly shouldn't be in use if you boot from the CD... that's odd.
