You might have more success with google rather than goggle. But perhaps that's what you blokes generally tend to do when presented with . . .

hmm there once was a time when I'd rage against The Phenomenon and defend my country. I studied African and South African politics like a good guilty, white liberal and I understand the culture of kleptocracy and all the theories of violence. Thing is though, I'm over it.
I'm over making excuses for the culture of violence, brutality and hatred that surrounds me every day. I'm over feeling guilty for the colour of my skin and the fact that as a white child, I apparently helped perpetuate apartheid. I'm over smiling and accepting all the bad things that happen and forcing myself to believe that things will get better, and that people are inherantly good.
I disagree with the device for the reasons already stated but mainly for the fact that it exists in the first place. Its existance means that the environment has become so twisted and warped that a victim can be pushed to the point of becoming a monster herself. It also means that there is a need for it, and that is beyond sad.
We are immigrating to Canada as soon as possible. People here keep calling me a coward but my family deserves to live in a place where devices like this are not only unnecessary, but would never have been thought of in the first place.

Shut up Queue - you don't convince anybody!
Shayde - I'm sorry for sidetracking the thread into triviality. Because it is a really serious issue. It doesn't really matter where you live, women will always be subject to violence by men. And I'm not saying that women are not subjected to violence by women. Because they are. In the same way, men are subjected also to violence by men and women too.
In an ideal world, that device would never be needed. I agree with you - but we don't live in that world - it shouldn't need to exist in the first place.
I hope very much that you'll be happy in Canada. You must always do first what you can for your family and friends. Only then, when you are safe and secure, can you do what you can for others.

Sounds like exactly like me, to be quite honest. I grew up in Harrismith (largish town) and there black kids and white kids in the town went to the same school. I wasn't around for Apartheid's heyday, but I feel the same as you do. At one point I bought into the white guilt, but not anymore.
Apartheid is nothing more than just a convenient excuse now. ANC has been ruling for 14 years. In these 14 years has anything improved for anyone except a select few that were properly connected politically? Not at all.
I am currently in process of immigrating to Australia. A hearty fuck you to anyone who calls people that leave this place cowards. I don't want to deal with something like this happening to my fiancee.
And White Guilt in this country is such a goddamn joke. I was born in the 80s and I don't feel the slightest bit guilty. Its so irritating when people try to explain away all the countries problems on Apartheid, shuffle their feet, buy Nelson Mandela's autobiography, join the ANC and pat themselves on the back while renouncing the evil white past loudly. I hate talking South African politics.

I may be getting tiresome, and it's no excuse for these people on an individual level, but it's still the truth. All of Africa is messed up because of the colonizers, and it's going to take years to sort it all out.

Colonialism isn't the only reason. That's bullshit. Its merely a contributing factor and a highly convenient scapegoat. Africa wasn't a place of peace and tranquility before Europeans arrived.
