I found this new (
http://www.thefirstpost.co.uk/2140,features,rapex-the-internal-anti-rape-device) anti-rape device rather interesting. For years I've loudly advocated castration as a reasonable punishment for rapists and pedophiles, so I kind of like the idea of this thing (though it pains me to read about it).
More than anything, I'm interested in what the ttlg ladies think about it. Would you wear one if you lived in a high rape-crime area?

Vengeful? HELL YES IT SHOULD BE! Hey Charlene? You're campaign SUCKS ASS since 1.5 million woman are still being raped in South Africa every year (last time I checked) - not counting child rape. Maybe it's time to be more pro-active?

It reminds me of that scene in Snow Crash where, in the heat of the moment, YT forgets to take her little device out...

That can't be comfortable to wear. And that's probably a good thing. You really wouldn't want to go with some gal who's casually forgotten she's wearing it. (and I would assume it's not visually apparent it's in use, for obvious reasons). In Neal Stephenson's 'Snowcrash' Y.T. has one, called a 'Vagina Dentata' of course, that administers a sedative as well and she forgets to take it out at one point. Which is interesting as so much of what makes the news about South Africa makes it sound like some absurd cyberpunk novel nightmare (like the anti car theft device that was basically a flame thrower built into the door of your car). Most of the S.A. folks I know assure me it's not quite that bad.
Curious that it's the feminist groups who don't like it, given the cliches about man haters many people hold.
(did it really take me that long to type that...sigh)

While "vengeful" is kind of a weird word choice, the article implies she isn't concerned about the poor rapists as much as the fact that women are reduced to dealing with rape by walking around with razor blades up their hoo-has.
Or, as she said in the part of the article you chose not to quote:
Quote:
It is a terrifying thought that women are being made to adapt to rape.

seeing "For guys who like it rough" and last responded "Stitch" on the front page is pretty exciting
however this thread is :(

I suppose rapists will adapt by turning women face down for the brown now. Well anyway it's easier to carry than a gun.
You know if they took that flame thrower idea and combined it with this one.... Nah. They might take off like a rocket and wind up in a tree somewhere.

Rapists will adapt by removing the things themselves. This will just force them to check, first.

By "a while back" do you perhaps mean "5 hours ago in Muzman's post in this thread" ?
