you won´t belive this guys, but i´m playing thief 2 without ddfix installed, i´ve already played two hours 3 missions and i had no crashes or those textures problems,
That's no surprise, I can do the same and I run Windows 7. Without ddfix on my system thief 2's sky looks horrible and the shadows are really dark, (among other issues) but with ddfix they are fixed.

I guess i will install windows 7, though the only thing i fear is that this windows system might not be compatible with old games, while windows xp is still able to run a few old games even games that that can only run up to windows Me.

I was never able to run Master of Magic (old Microprose game from 1994) under XP, but got it working in Vista using (
http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/) D-Fend Reloaded (a GUI front end for DOSBox). I also found all the old Ultimas (1 - 6) as freeware and most of them work under it, too. You should check it out, Pedro.

If you get Windows 7 x64 edition, you can't run old programs that were meant for an operating system that ran 16-bit applications. Keep that in mind. If you get 32 bit edition, then it's fine, at least that's what I heard. Otherwise, old games should run.
You're not guaranteed to get everything to run on XP either so it's not all that different, except for what I said about 16-bit applications. (I found this out the hard way. Tried to run an old 16-bit game and was unable to, then found out that x64 doesn't allow you to run those.)

I'm investigating these issues now.
... aaand I give up. I was expecting to see some failing calls or some other clear problem but no such luck. As far as ddfix is concerned, everything seems to be working, the game just crashes somewhere. If I change something in ddfix, the game executable crashes somewhere else. There's no logic to it. Some kind of memory corruption, I don't know.

Yesterday i did run Thief through the icon "thief2original.exe" instead of "thief2.exe" and the game worked just fine like in the old good times, no crashes, no strange textures, and graphics in 32 bit as it should be, and i don´t have ddfix installed :D, i believe that the lastest ati catalist drives that i´ve installed allow to run thief 2 in safe mode, can anyone confirm a similiar situation?

Without ddfix it's 16 bits. Glad you got it working now.
