Somewhere, a guy in a lab is using the collective power of tens of thousands of computers to run a game of Half Life with anti-aliasing on.

Damn. I had hoped this thread was about creating a friday-evening TTLG Origami Club. :grr:

I'm on (
http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=11108) MaximumPC's Folding team 11108. I'm in the top half of all folders, which doesn't say much. This status somehow gets my computer to download the most difficult work units. I had one last month that took like 13 minutes per unit, and there were like 500 units. This week I downloaded a 20000 work unit. It first said it would be done in December 2007. I was about to uninstall the folding program when I saw it was just showing an estimate since my CPU was busy at the time with a bunch of other stuff.

the best thing about this ressurected thread is that it gives everyone a chance to remember how razor sharp witty i am

I think my processing power is better spent curing cancer than finding aliens.
seriously, if aliens came here we'd probably try and nuke them.
Edit: Joined the folding group, am so confused - they have like 80 different FAQs, tons of weird console stuff, and my FAH is running in my downloads folder and the F@H folder. Also, since it's near my bed and I'm a light sleeper, my computer needs to be turned off at night. And then I have to do weird stuff to get it to use both cores. And there's all these project and point competitions, and WU monitoring, and goddamnit I just wanted to fold some proteins, this is not user-friendly at all:(

My school got 60 new IBM computers that have 3 ghz processors. I installed it in like ten of them. They leave the computers on all night, so I'm interested in seeing how my scores will be. Is it ok for more than 5 computers to have the same folding@home username? I changed the letters a little on some of them.
