Is anyone here folding, or is there a TTLG folding team?
You probably have heard the concept: A little program runs in the background of your computer, only taking whatever spare power there is. It uses this power to play with proteins. The results it gets are sent back to the Folding@home people who use it in medical research.
It will keep redcuing itself every time you open new processes, so you should never notice that it's even there.
Collectively it can manages the same as a ten bazillion dollar computer and you're helping find a cure for cancer, which will allow you to look down your nose at people you meet in the street.

I tried to get it working about a year ago and have a folder on my computer labelled Folding with a few files in it. I've never actually known if it's been working or not though. Which I suppose is half the point if it *is* actually working :)

If it is working there should be a little icon in your system tray, and your screensaver should show whatever it is doing whatever it does.

There's a TTLG team at (
www.grid.org), running the United Devices anti-cancer program. It's essentially the same idea - runs in the background using spare CPU time - but looks for good prospects for anti-cancer drugs. I just checked up, though, it seems that there are only about two people still going on the team. (I still run it, but I'm on my university team instead.)
Maybe this would be a good time to say HEY GUYS, GET BACK TO FINDING CANCER CURES!!!!

I'm still running that program. I wonder what happened to staying power

I started a team for folding. Number 49580.
Lets kick butt!

Nice one, I just transfered over from my old, mostly inactive team.

I need to figure out how to get folding going behind our firewall at work

I used to run SETI@Home, first the classic and then the BOINC version, but since the project has pretty much been concluded and no other BOINC project offers native 64-bit binaries (yes, I know I could run 32-bit ones - but I don't wanna :p), I have decided to call it quits and actually let my computer use its fancy power-saving mechanisms. So, no folding for me at the moment.

I just folded a shitload of laundry. Does that count?
