If anyone else here plays Thief on Linux using wine, have you been able to get fog to work? If you have, what did you do? Does fog work for people on Windows these days? I'm trying to narrow down whether this may be a hardware issue, a settings issue, a Wine issue, or maybe the way fog is implemented in the Dark engine doesn't work very well on modern machines.
(There's a bug discussion here: (
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10570))

yes, fog works properly as log as you use the updated engine (NewDark). it's been a while since I've done any linux/wine testing, but I don't remember it not working, so I think it did.
why don't you grab the linked T2 demo and try it out yourself?

I guess I should explain that I do have it installed, and that the fog has never worked for me on Wine, not for years. I've tried the GOG versions of Thief Gold, Thief 2, and the patched versions with TFix and Tafferpatcher. I thought perhaps NewDark may have some setting that could be changed that might get fog working. It seems like from the bug discussion on wineHQ, the Dark engine may use an unusual method of producing the fog.
If that's so, maybe even Windows users would be having problems?
It's a little thing, I know. It's just a shame to play a mission like Raid on Washout Central without fog.

only T2 has fog, the GOG version should have in enabled and ready to go.
windows users have no problems with fog since NewDark.
