FMs to be distributed exclusively through Eidos? (LOOK OUT! IT'S A PRANK!) - by Gingerbread Man

You - have - got - to be - shittin' - me.
Enough already. This is beginning to feel like a mind-f*** or gargantuan proportions. Since when have fan works had to be authorized by the company who owns the rights? We're talking about fan works here, not commercial products. All we're doing is supporting their damn brand, for free, and improving their product in the process, providing ideas, innovations, extending the life of the game and increasing the value of their brand. Either give us the free rights to distribute the levels, similarily to what has been the legal practice with T1/T2 FMs, or forget about the whole damn thing.
I still think this has got to be an April Fools joke, because if its real -- for real -- it's the stupidest business decision I have ever heard of. What do they think they're going to accomplish by this?
If Eidos wants to authorize any possible FMs I might author, they also damn well have to pay me for it, and for everyone else. I wouldn't even consider building FMs for the direct benefit of Eidos. Only for this community.
This has got to be a joke. I still want to think that I only swallowed the lure deeper here. I'd be happy for it.

I don't really mind Eidos gathering the best FM's in a year and selling them, as long as:
1. I get the credit for the work I did in making my own FMs
2. The FM can still be downloaded for free
3. I don't have to go through some Eidos betatesting group to have my FM released.
The more I think about it, the more pissed off I become. This has better not be a joke. All will be forgiven if you come clean, now.

Yeah, I think this joke should be laid to rest. It's rather cruel to keep up the ruse for this long. If it isn't a joke...pffff, they think the fans would be stopped by something like this? Whatever.

Gaaa
Don't people know that if you try to fool someone after 12o'clock (GMT) then you are in fact the fool, which would mean that following GBM's futher post he is a fool. (Hey I don't make the rules, they are just stupid like this whole stupid day).
If this isn't a joke, I think a whole great big "like we give a damn" attitude should be held, but then i also don't think we are interpretating what is happening properly. If eidos want to create annual exapnsion missions... now that is something I could handel :)

I find it extremely unlikely that Eidos would be interested enough in TDS to sell FM collections, but not interested enough to patch it.
Exactly. That's the first thing that made me... well... sorta... the unbeliever.

Obvious April fools joke IMO. :)

Had me for about 5 minutes. Actually spilled coffee on my keyboard. Bah.
Even if this was real, which it obviously is not :p
Then fms would simply be released via p2p.

There are three minimum criteria for a GOOD April Fool's prank:
1. It must be plausible enough to be believed.
The fact that Eidos is involved MAKES it believable for me. There were similarly ridiculous statements from Eidos concerning their assets in the past, and this one would fit into their way of thinking, along with the subliminal legal threat between the lines. So to me at least, it sounds quite plausible.
But considering the date I'll refrain from any further comments on this until at least April 2nd, and see if there are any :joke:s or :laff:s from the admins then. If not, I can still knock the stuffing out of Eidos - verbally.
P.S.: One thing however is raising my suspicion: the lack of vehement denial of this being an april fools joke from the admins...

To be honest, I've even entertained the possibility that Eidos might be pranking ME. But that email I forwarded Dave on Wednesday (my Wednesday, his Thursday) would be a bit ahead of the game.
Besides, I can't imagine anyone at Eidos is bored enough (or secure enough in their jobs right now) to bother mucking about with gags.
That would have been pretty funny, though... In retrospect, obviously. I'd laugh at how easily they had duped me -- as I exited their burning offices.
But I'm pretty sure they aren't playing a trick on me.
