Well, no response as of yet, and I doubt GBM or the rest of the mods would hold this over our heads as an April Fools joke after the day has passed...so...
Considering the above quote from GBM about having to wait until Monday, this sounds as if he is serious and it's not a joke.

I think at this point we can pretty much rule out this being any kind of a joke. It's bizarre. I would love to hear the reasoning behind this course of action. Perhaps we'll know more come Monday, and GBM touches base with his contacts at Eidos.

GBM, would you mind sending me Davison Lipsor's contact info that was deleted from your post via PM? I *swear* I won't give it to anyone else or do anything foolish with it (like harassing the guy), I'm too old for such childish behavior. I only want to test a theory.

Lighten up, guys--These loveable pranksters are just getting the maximum mileage out of this thing, and the fuel is your continuing worrying.
There is no way this is true. :p

Well... GBM is, after all, the same guy who, for five months (and with several willing accomplices) did a very convincing impression of a man who new nothing about the T3Editor.
Let's see him keep this one going for five months :eww:
It seems from reading the disbelief here, that there is a certain hard limit on stories about wolves, and that it's been reached.

Incidentally, the editor is still available from Eidos' FTP site.

Well, if they try to cash in on the creations, then it wouldn't make sense to stop the source of their (potential) income.

Compare them with Microsoft Office documents, then.
Sure, an Office document containing MS clipart. The difference is, MS clipart is free to use, but no such statement is made about the T3Ed "clipart." Even if you don't use any of the existing art, is it legal to distribute files in a proprietary file format owned by Eidos?

But it should be perfectly obvious that few, if any, people are going to bother going to the time and effort of making an FM if they have to get Eidos' approval to release it (and wait up to a year for them to do so). Plus, we have to believe
* That Eidos' new investors would notice and care about the Thief franchise, a relatively small part of Eidos' creative output.
* That the same investors would believe that distributing Fan Missions in some way diminishes the value of the Flesh engine (which is tantamount to Microsoft saying that sharing DOC files diminishes the value of Word).
* That the investors would be happy to cause massive bad will towards Eidos by reversing a decision in favour of the fan community that was already cleared with their legal department (presumably).
* That, as already pointed out, Eidos are going to bother playtesting and releasing FMs for a game they did not even bother to patch. They would be better off just pulling the editor altogether.
* That Eidos are prepared to sue (or at least C&D) distributors of Fan Missions, when these distributors are customers who have purchased the game, and are increasing its value by making available extra content which might encourage others to buy the game.
If this is not a joke on GBM's part (and the fact that he posted an important announcement on April 1 without a single statement to the effect of "this is absolutely not an April Fool's" is deeply suspicious), then I suspect that it is either a joke or just misinformation on the part of his contact. The whole thing makes no logical sense whatsoever.
