FMs to be distributed exclusively through Eidos? (LOOK OUT! IT'S A PRANK!) - by Gingerbread Man

Thanks Mol, other than this it's been a pretty cool birthday. ;)
As far as Epic being pissed at Eidos, you think they would've cleared this with em before they released the toolset. I remember Null mentioning the legal issues that were holding up the editor's release, I doubt something as big as that could've slipped by.
Edit: Well the editor is still available on all the big download sites...that's a good sign at least.

I love the way people are stopping just short of saying it's utter bollocks.

You know, today I opened up the newspaper, and it said they're going to chop down a couple of trees in a local park area because two US military helicopters are going to land there.
And on the radio they said people'd have to indicate their body mass index in the next annual tax declaration.
Then I read this.

...I don't really care for T3 anyway and I have yet to see what the FM authors will create. T3 never inspired me to even think about replaying it. That might be changed by good FM missions, but if this statement is really true and pulled through in full, I guess it will have a severe impact on the modding community for T3.
This is pretty much what I thought about Thief 3. I played it through three times, but after that I didn't really have a good enough reason to try it again. I began to call the game dead. This was a pity, as I knew the editor had unseen potential in it. Then they released the editor, and I thought that the editor could finally release the full potential of the engine and after playing with it, it could be able to do it. Now they want to take it back. I imagine that Thief 3 has died again.
"severe impact impact on the modding community for T3"
How about becoming nearly/completely extinct?
P.S You admins do know that if you say "April Fools" after this, there will be some serious kicking of your asses.

Well we can't all be British.

I wouldn't go after GBM. That guy can kill small woodland creatures with his stare and has arms like mighty oaks. It'd take at least 6 of us to bring him down, and even then it's a risky venture.
It'd be better to kick David's ass and let it serve as an example for GBM.
this is not serious, please don't ban

Didn't I just say that?

Evidence that it's for real:
- GBM has said "not a joke" and hasn't called off the joke, long overdue if it's a joke
- Eidos are buttholes and this isn't entirely beneath them
Evidence that it's a joke:
- GBM is known to be a butthole when he wants to be and to excercize unrighteous dominion over all us forum fools to the utmost extent, this joke in no way being beyond his sadistic reach :ebil:
- It's utterly preposterous
- It's HUGE news, which happens to be delivered on April 1st
- It's unverifiable
- GBM hasn't vehemently and directly denied it being an April Fools joke, no lines such as "Seriously guys, this is NOT and April Fools joke, I'm really sorry for the bad timing, but this is absolutely true and not a joke..."
- ZB thinks it's a joke and he rules the world of truth and logic

Guess who will win.
Hours later, this is still being humored? Okay. I'll pretend then, for this post.
They gave something out free and without contract, verbal or written or implied. The rules (stated or not) cannot be changed after the game has already begun. Think back to GBM's posts - where he agrees that yes, there's no clause where a court would enforce pulling it back - so where is there a clause that says they would hold license over anything produced with that exact package they gave out for free, remembering that it was without contract, verbal or written or implied? Nowhere. The assets are theirs - your work is not.
If it WAS true, how the hell does anyone think it would be enforced? Through threatening TTLG? Fine, if TTLG would need to bow to the pressure, then means of distribution would find another way. It always does.
Put simply, if they did care to do this, which they don't (c'mon, EIDOS may be on a lot of our shit-lists, but they are not THIS stupid), there ain't jack-shit they could hope to accomplish with it. You know darn well nothing can be protected in the realm of software, especially after it's been given out for free. Duh.
I think the humor is leaving this rapidly. Whether its origin is TTLG or EIDOS shenanigans, it's not really a good idea in my opinion. Sure, there's probably a "ha, ha, you got me!" with a big exhale and flow of positive emotion planned for later at the "unveiling", but I don't think the negative vibe being produced right now, against EIDOS, the editor (which hasn't yet gotten its chance to shine), AND the game (which already has more than it's share of flak) is a very good idea. Just a thought. Then again, maybe I'm wrong, and it's a publicity stunt. Look at those browsing numbers. Hopefully it won't backfire.
Besides, people! Think. (Sorry GBM) When is the last time GBM took so much interest in keeping us informed up-to-the-minute and so clearly, going so far as to address our personal concerns? Usually he'd stay silent or crack a (admittedly razor sharp) quip and tell us to piss off.
To answer the question -
we would, spar. Always.
