hey, I'm just glad you got it to go.
I knew we needed the t3.exe with non-editor versions, that's why I put it in the zip, but I thought the original t3main would still work out.
Missing ProtoGuards doesn't mean much to me, but if you have a big t3main.log (as in it didn't crash - damn thing always runs huge if you shutdown right) and they're quite high in it I think it's just junk code at the top. My t3main.log always lists somestuff as missing, usually things I''ve never heard of or am definately not using though, so I tend to let it slide.
But when the game crashes some of the more useful errors have been at the end of it - it just stops when it hits some missing things, or runs out of vertices.
So the very end stuff, like memory reports aren't much use. Means it's running okay, so not a lot of use as a debug.
That's two who've got it to go, <sigh>

Ultra Update! :thumb:
It works. I rebuilt the Entry with your "StartPoint" specification (I originally named it PlayerStart__0, based on the editor default name) and it works - so that must have been the problem launching it with the game executables. Woot! It looks great. I took only a long enough peek to see the bartender cleaning the bar, before I ran here to post the info.
So for the record - it has been launched successfully both with editor and without.

:cheeky: :thumb: :D ;) :p
(and any other celebrating type noises we care to make, shame about the entry mission being borked, but hey - it's a first release, would have been some other Earth if it'd've just worked)

Hey, we're bug testing ;)
Will there be an updated zip? Or is there one already?

Update: I got it to run, but by using the editor executable (T3MainOptVersion.exe), with command line. So, there might still be problems for people who don't have the editor. Has anyone
without the editor successfully run this map yet?
I haven't, I got it installed ok via GarrettLoader (and got the GLTitle.jpg to show as well (wasn't showing normaly as there was not formatted readme in the zip)), but it just hangs when clicking new game on the main menu.
Just out of curiosity are all the .cdb files needed (as they are all mostly 24 bytes)

I just finished - great job! :thumb:
Some commentary, and technical stuff:
- Definitely a very cool 15 minute FM, enjoyable and well designed.
- It was great the way the city watch came bursting through the door, and then as I went upstairs, they proceeded to search the place, as if they were tipped off by someone, and were searching for an intruder!

- I loved the secret door ;)

- Also liked the use of triggered AI - we rarely see that in Thief, but sometimes it's good - I'm speaking of the woman that steps out of her room, just as you start to walk down the second floor hallway
Edit:
- How could I forget the barmaid cleaning the floor! Nice touch. And... emergent behavior in AI? ;) Does the bartender walk over to check under the table, or is he getting a closer look at her ass? He's walking over there, doing that, while she's saying, "Oh yeah, like I have time to sit and chat... I'm working here!" and I'm laughing out loud.
- It ran perfectly fast on my aging (1.4GHz) system, so you could push it even harder - I'd say, make every static mesh that touches light cast shadows - it should still run great
- I had sound errors in the form of sound being cut off when I was in the rooms of the second floor hallway. I couldn't hear the guard patrolling *at all* when inside a room, whether the door was open or not. I have no idea what could cause that in an Unreal (well...) engine game. Perhaps off grid brushes, or holes? Probably something trivial, because I have a full zone maybe 10 times the size of this and never had that error. Hmmm.
- I didn't get briefing text (but did get debrief and notes) when I ran the mission from my dual editor/game install, but did from my game-only install. Odd. I haven't taken the time to figure out why yet. This was using my own rebuilt Entry.gmp, so that could be a culprit... but why one game install and not the other?
All in all, a great little mission! It's a shame you didn't enter it in one of the contests. I definitely think the minor issues should be patched up and it should be announced in the Fan Mission forum, without a doubt.

I think there's discrepancies between how the editor handles maps & how a default T3 install handles maps. With Krellek's Labyrinth the assassin has a glave in regular t3 & the glave is not there in the editor.

Huh! Oh my. That could be problematic.
Komag on 15/6/2005 at 00:25
If that is always the case, then us authors will HAVE to do edit with a full seperate copy of the Thief3 install, and just installing the editor over a single Thief3 install won't be an option. That's not too bad really, as it's rare to not be able to spare two gigs of space.
Anyway, sounds like real progress is being made on this whole situation. While the answers and essential things are still fresh, I recommend writing it all down clearly for our benefit and instruction! Thanks! :thumb:

Nevermind, seems I was wrong. I'm not sure how, but at one time, the briefing was working - now it doesn't work for either my game/editor nor my game-only install. I must have fiddled something up somewhere. Anyway, the good news is, I see no difference between my installations now (very good news) and the notes and debriefs still work, so that remains good. ascottk's comment might still be a cause for concern though.
