If you don't mind waiting a few days or maybe a week or two, there's a nice loader program on the way which will make it all easy.
Otherwise you'll have to follow the directions included with the download, which entails backing up a ton of files and then unzipping the download in the right place.

Yeah, it's a bit ugly, but if you aren't doing your own editing, then all you should really need to backup is the Entry.gmp in the CONTENT/T3/Maps folder - everything else is added to rather than completely replaced, so (fingers crossed) it shouldn't interfere anymore than that.

All you do is make copies of the folders though. Then you unzip the FM and play!

I've made a little uninstall zip (
http://www.thiefpetition.com/fms/Townhouse_v2_uninstall_files.zip) here with the files listed in the Townhouse v2 readme file. That should mean you can unzip the mission into your T3 folder, play, then unzip the above to restore the game. Please note that I take no responsibility if this destroys your PC, saws halfway through one leg on every chair in your household and starts making improper advances towards your sister. In fact I have no idea where it could even have learned such behaviour. :sly:

I've been hearing a lot about blank objectives in game. I haven't had this problem. my game displayed the custom goal no problem. all I did was unzip the file as instructed in the read me. I have my game patched up to 1.1 (everyone does right?) and I have The Minimalist Project 1.41 loaded up as well as some of John P's texture mods. I do have the editor installed but I have it in a completely different place so that means it hasn't messed with my game install right? yes, no? as far as I could tell there were no bugs or problems with this FM that didn't exist in the game already.

nobody - I don't have minimalist, so maybe that got around the issue of the correct versions of the exes so that it worked. Or maybe it''s some kind of intermittant error anyway.
In other news, fileplanet finally got back to me on hosting the file, and people have apparently been downloading it. This is bad because that's the first version of the file, so I'll not link to it, but I have sent them an updated version which contains the t3.exe and t3main.exe again, and which also includes a ResetToDefault.zip so that you don't have to manually backup all of the files anymore.
Hopefully that will make things smoother for those people who see the link there and don't have the editor and or aren't part of this community.

I downloaded the editor and used the T3MainOptVersion.exe out of it (rather than install), renamed to T3Main.exe and the final objective showed correctly. However it loads much slower...also zone alarm says the exe wants to be a server...
But basically the exe needs to be part of a basic install pack for FM's, I'll also get GarrettLoader to check its the right version as well.

Could try the MainRelease.exe from the editor - I think it loads (and runs ingame) quicker. And I think it also includes the "look in other places" thing that the original shipping/patch version didn't
potterr on 28/6/2005 at 16:33
Ziemanskye, thats much better, shows objectives and is much faster. Also tried it with the original T3.exe which also works. So basically its just the T3MainReleaseVersion.exe that really only needs to be included, although teh original T3.exe does do additional cd checking and validation by the looks of it, so I presume that should really stay as is (unless anyone thinks otherwise?).

Yeah, you need the T3main release version for any type of custom materials. It's included in Minimalist project and the minimalist installer leaves an unaltered version of the editor t3main after it's uninstalled since it's exactly the same but with the bonus of being pre-patched.
