I agree. I think part of the decline in numbers since NewDark came out is because it allows authors to create more complicated missions, which take more time to produce. Also we have been seeing more lengthy campaigns in recent years, which also slow down those authors' production and also only register as a single release in the chart.

If people help me out with cataloguing them, I'd be willing to make a separate statistic for campaigns. For that, I'd need to know every release with at least 2 missions in it, and the exact number of missions in the release - pure camvator missions would be excluded from that count.
I'm not going through 1302 releases on my own. :P
As an example, something like Godbreaker, which has 4 missions, would count as a 3 mission campaign, since one of them is just a dialogue cutscene with no gameplay.

I'll help you with mine right now! :D
DCE (2017) is 10 missions but should be counted as 8 missions with actual gameplay.

Camvators still require work and time spent and they add to the overall experience of the campaign. Counting them in would better reflect the overall productivity of the community. Separating playable missions from not playable is really a gray area. There has been a number of tech demos released or many entries of the beauty contest, which had no gameplay apart from walking. Not to mention that some FMs are impossible to play from either a quality or technical point of view... So, where do you set the boundry?

49 missions in 1999? My database has a little bit more. But it also includes demos and very very first simple projects.
Regarding campaigns, I am also working on cataloguing them properly on my portal. In your "Released FMs" statistic, do you count every entry in a campaign separate? Or do you only count releases (rocksbourg has 3 seperate releases and will count 3 times, while Patriot will count as one "released FM").

I counted releases, based on what's hosted on Taffer's Paradise (with some adjustments suggested by people in this thread).
So a campaign that released each part as a separate mission has each mission count as its own, while a single-release campaign only counts as one.
For example, Christine's Lady Lotti saga is made up of 3 missions, each released separately. Meanwhile Godbreaker, which also has 3 missions (if you disregard the cutscene mission), counts as a single release.
Of course, campaigns that were released mission by mission were usually not released in one batch, either. So you could have mission 1 released in 2008, mission 2 in 2010 and mission 3 in 2011. While campaigns released as a single release have only one year of release, obviously.
