user.ini overrides anything in default.ini
Editing user.ini does the same thing, as does editing both of them.

Not sure about that then, the install runs fine on mine, I don't have the editor on my PC though. I have only seen the bomb out when the [PCVertexPools] is not at a high enough level or is too high for the PC to handle (depending upon the PCs specs).
GL would only have extracted what was in the FM zip file so would effectively be the same as manually unzipping to the right locations. Although it would have updated the user.ini file originally but that was overwritten here, and it would back up the save games and restore any that existed for this FM. Other than that the only possible thing may be the wrong T3MAIN.EXE in use.

If it was the wrong T3Main.exe the game wouldn't load through GL with default setting, so that's not it.
I just uninstalled GL, rebooted, and installed it again, I'll see what exactly is being changed, what is not, and report back if I find anything of value.
Incidentally, GL gave me this warning when I was doing the configuration.
Inline Image:
http://www.sherlockholmesarmy.org/glt3error1.jpg My "I" drive is where the editor is installed, not the game, but no matter how many times I uninstall GL it keeps giving me this message.

OK, this is what my user.ini looks like when I DISABLE Special Vintage via Garrett Loader:
Code:
[BlockLoading]
LoadFromResourceBlockFiles=True
[Source Control]
UseSourceSafe=0
[Engine.Engine]
UpdateGameSys=0
[PCVertexPools]
DynamicVertexPool0=31457280
StaticVertexPool=26214400
StaticShadowVertexPool=15728640
this is my user.ini AFTER installing GL and activating Special Vintage:
Code:
[BlockLoading]
LoadFromResourceBlockFiles=True
;WriteResourceBlockFiles=True
;WriteBlockFiles=True
[Source Control]
UseSourceSafe=0
[Engine.Engine]
UpdateGameSys=0
[Conversations]
SchemaChangesAllowed=true
[PCVertexPools]
;added an extra 0 to the end of the default.ini pool size;;
StaticShadowVertexPool=15728640
I don't know if these are what they are supposed to be, but I think they are.

Comment out LoadFromResourceBlockFiles=True!
so it looks like:
;LoadFromResourceBlockFiles=True

Works fine with those settings for me. If you're feeling adventurous you could replace the t3main.exe with the t3mainoptversion.exe from the editor and try running it. Then check the t3main.log in your save game folder to see if the last few lines point to anything.

That crashed the game right as the menu loading screen was coming up.

OK, I took a look at the log, and it appears that "it" (whatever "it" is) is pulling data (like string tags) from my
I: directory, which is specified as my editing directory. Further down the list there are about 100-120 Error Messages followed by about the same amount of Warning messages. Last 12 or so lines below:

The LoadFromResourceBlockFiles setting (unless I'm getting it mixed up again...) tells T3 to load the resources (textures, meshes etc.) from the .ibt instead of the directory structure. We want that to be true so I don't think that should be commented out.
It does seem that your editor and game installs are conflicting somehow, I wonder if an ini file has picked up the I: settings or something. Check your default.ini for any mention of the wrong subdirectory. Failing that, I can only suggest a manual install (though GL is working fine for me on this).

I cannot download this file at all, Gonchong's server says "Does not exist".
How is everyone downloading this?

Edit: Link down for the next few hours.
I don't know what I did right but I finally got it working. I got rid of my T3 install on C:\, removed GL, and removed everything in the registry that had anything to do with T3/IonStorm. I then made sure that all the folders were deleted, and moved my editing stuff to a completely different drive. Then I rebooted and installed T3 and GL again.
Whatever. Gonchong there's some really clever stuff in there, I've only spent a few minutes looking around but it's got a solid base to build on.
