Custom resources would include gamesys and triggerscripts(? and what else?).
New sounds, any of the t3u files can be altered with the editor and packaged with a mission. The more I think about it, the better a resource package sounds for fan missions. We wouldn't have to include all the sound files though since they're accessed through the meta files...only custom sounds created by the author would need to be packaged. I'll try experimenting with this later tonight. ;)

So what if it is a bit big we need all game files in one file ready to go.
Like Ziemanskye said, we would be downloading a lot of resources that we already have in our Thief 3 folder and in other FM's. Every FM would have 20 to 30 mb of extra information in .ibt files (and this would just be the non-custom stuff).

I'm going to startup an official thread for FM distribution "without" ibt files. I have a few proposals.

Go ahead. Currently that is the only realistic way.
The .ibt of my FM is currently 18mb big. It has zero custom materials and it consists of 5 rooms and one hallway. :p

Yeah, there really isn't any reason to use IBT for distribution. It makes sense on a production level but for FM's? Yikes.

If I split up the mission for the 'Tower of the Moon' aka the baron's tower Mission so that it would work in thief 3, there would be 14 maps. :erg:
the 17mb dromed mission would actually be 150mb in memory, but dromed would compact the file, then thief 2 would unpack the file for you, thats why there's that 30 second delay on some missions for thief 2 before they start.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but...
Distributing custom sounds: we know that custom sounds only work as ambients if they're in the metafiles, but that the metafiles are too big to distribute. Would it be possible for the FM loader program to add any custom sounds to the metafiles on the player's hard drive when an FM is installed, and then remove them when the FM is uninstalled? That way the author would only need to distribute the sound files, rater than the huge metafiles.

Rantako, if you can work out how to do it safely then I can add it into GarrettLoader.

I'll also try and figure out the metafile structure, after the IBT stuff is done.
